CAS Rugby 2022

On the fullback decision, such a shame as that kid would have torn up the U16 comp and given CAS a real shot at ousting GPS. Him at fullback with the ultra fast Knox 15 on the wing would have been something to see.

The Knox 16’s fullback would have been a better selection in CAS 1sts than the Barker 1sts Fullback.

Ultimately it should have been the Waverley fullback(Towns) as the first selection for CAS opens.

Well, I think Shore is still a bit off the pace, but I agree there's not much between them and Kings. The point I was making is unchanged: GPS has 5-6 schools of high competitive standard, CAS has three.

Trinity and Cranbrook have had their competitive years. Only 3 years ago Trinity had a famous win against St Joseph’s College.

4 of the 6 CAS teams have beaten St Joseph’s in the last 5 years.

CAS has had a Strong winning % against that school as a whole since about 2015.

Sure, and this year, which is what I'm talking about, there are three CAS schools competitive with the GPS schools. Trinity could finish fourth in the CAS, and were thumped by Shore, who could end up sixth in the GPS. So this year, it's no surprise that GPS is significantly stronger.

Apologies. Yes that is true.

I am out here this morning and will provide some updates. CAS seconds up 12-0. Some easy tries early. Preketes makes a great run for the first try.

The two props have no numbers on their jerseys.

Not much of a crowd out here either.

CAS penalised for a dominant scrum, then a dominant tackle form Barker 7 that was just a good tackle.

CHS pick and drive to the line - drop the ball over the line to end the half.

Half time at CAS 2’s. Best on field are Read (Barker winger playing 15), Livingstone (Barker 7) and the Aloys 10. Aloys 10 clearly should have been the 1’s 10 with Katoa’s absence. Glad Katoa getting called up for league gave him the chance to show what he’s got. Great player. Livingstone was also my pick for 7 for CAS 1’s. Would have given the 1’s some much needed ball carrying, seems to be making 15+ post contact metres with every hit up. Also has bagged a try crashing over the line. Read is a winger. Never played fullback before. Was also picked as a shadow and was called up. Second year of footy. Had 2 tries in 20 minutes. DEFINITELY should have had 3. CAS centre threw a ball to ground on an easy 2 on 1 that would have put him under the posts. Also was unlucky not to bag a 4th try when he got unlucky on a bounce on a grubber. 3 best on the park so far.

Some great carries by Cranbrook hooker and tight head prop, before Aloys 10 carves them up through the middle - a quick penalty and Barker 7 over for a try.

Livingstone with a hat-trick on an almost full field support play. Definitely showing CAS 1’s selectors they made a mistake.

A great team try - a huge hit by Knox 20 sees a turnover. All the players react, some great passes sees the Barker 7 score again in the corner - great support play by everyone.

CHS don’t move for 15 phases. CAS defence too good. Forces a kick. Read (Barker 15) puts a beautiful kick into the corner to pin them in their own 10. Some great line speed forces a turnover. Read makes half a break. Tackled high. Penalty. Rolling maul too strong. Another try.
