"Waverley providing security to keep their vocal Old Boys under control
Under the circumstances, I think Knox showed exceptional composure for schoolboys. I may be wrong, however, I don't believe that they were penalised once for foul play. Despite winning 41-0 in a hostile away environment "
A Knox player was yellow carded for one of those reflex high tackles just before full time. But as far the security keeping the old boys under control that is a question of degree - the pack of youths behind the try line sledged for the full game. Several of them had match programs and would look up Knox players names in order to sledge in a more personal manner. At 0-0 Stenning was being implored by the throng to "do something Nick"when he finished off a nice movement by scoring the first try. The best response to sledging is to win the game and keep your dignity. If you lose, keeping your dignity is the next best thing. I was surprised with the cheering the first Waverley player yellow carded received from the grandstand filled with Waverley students. Before I get off my high horse I will report that my son said that the Knox crowd sledging can be very similar.
