sorry yes 15 was very good too, cranbrook would have won by 60 if they kicked for touch instead of for goals from 50 in the first half
understand its important to win but schoolboys should be encouraged to play running rugby for the game to prosper in australia
In the 16s:
Knox 36 def. Trinity 5
Standouts for Knox: Armstrong 12, Bosch 15, Margin 5
Standouts for Trinity: Morris 12, Connolly 7, Tonkin 4
Given it was 10-3 in the first half so the defence was still tight, why do you assume that Cranbrook would have automatically scored if they had kicked for touch instead of gone for long goals twice ? That is quite an unsubstantiated assumption not based on the evidence in the first half, and a tad arrogant I would argue.
Mate I'm a Waverley old boy last thing I wanted to see was my old school go down by 40 so can't see how im being arrogant???? Cranbrook had it all over Waverley out wide and if they had kept the ball in hand rather then kick it away they would have scored tries like they did in the secondGiven it was 10-3 in the first half so the defence was still tight, why do you assume that Cranbrook would have automatically scored if they had kicked for touch instead of gone for long goals twice ? Possible CAS contenders?

Had to feel sorry for Waverley today they had a few trying very hard but as others have suggested looked like they had been thrown out there with little to no structure or coaching. The boys deserve better speaking to a few down there today the sportsmaster wanted to coach the side at the expense of old boys with better credentials submitting to do the job for less then what the school pays "mr soccer" a external group to run the schools soccer.
On a different note, since when have schoolboy teams been taking any penalties within 50 metres for a shot at goal. didnt like that.
Think brumbiejack was tough on cranbrook as well as the 6,8, 14 being outstanding I thought 12 ran straight and hard for good metres and 13 tackled well.
Waverley came out of the gates hard but not scoring in the first ten seem to deflat them. Unfortunately their attack was limited to pick and drives
As mentioned earlier, very much a stop start game (with the ref not helping). Cranbrook forwards did a sensational job and over powered the waves pack.
Waverely are struggling to get the ball out to the 10 quickly. They didn't get a chance to spread the ball today.
I overheard a number of waverley parents commenting on the coaching staff and that the headmaster is not interested in focusing on the rugby programme. This is a shame considering 3 boys (8, 10 & 12) made the under 18 CIS squad this week - i hear the 10 (Dion N) is still 16 and played 1sts last year also.
Looking forward to Knox and Cranbrook, should be a corker.
The level of despondency coming from Waverely is a bit silly. It's going to be a tough season. But no-one stays on top for ever. Knox looks set to win the competition this season, and three years ago I saw Trinity beat them 73-10. The wheel turns.
the evidence that when they didnt kick for goal and kicked for the line in the second half and scored is clear cut evidence for mine, unless waverley ran out a different team in the second half???As I said before, I can't agree with your assumption that if they didn't kick for goal twice they would have automatically scored both times. On the face of it a 10-3 halftime score gives weight to my argument rather than yours.
disagree there are more funds given to soccer I think that at very least these should be equally matched? waverley has a strong tradition in rugby and if nothing is done it will get worse. There is enough resources and money at waverley for it to give a little to the program without anything else having to suffer. I was recently at a dinner for old boys at the school and can tell you that 85% of the conversation was about rugby stories from the various year groups in attendance.Yes, Waverley couldn't spread the ball quickly as Cranbrook did them over at the set piece and were all over them at the breakdown (very often illegally - I think the ref had his hands full there and it was the players, not the ref that was to blame). Cranbrook were undoubtedly the better team and their forwards are good and well coached - their defence in both forwards and backs is very tight. I haven't seen Knox but from their results it sounds like Knox is a good attacking team and Cranbrook a good defensive one so it should be a good tussle.
As a Waverley parent and rugby fanatic I think the headmaster has it right re rugby. The school has limited financial resources (currently not enough funds to even buy a scrum machine - and it showed today) and focusing on rugby comes at the expense of something else. It is a road to nowhere to try to emulate other schools who have the financial wherewithall to turn programs around quickly.
Given we came second 3/4 years in a row with the same resources (different teachers coaching admittedly) and the junior grades have good numbers and results I don't think we should break out the sackcloth just yet. This year is going to be a long one but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
But as you would agree know have made some significant changes to their program since then? The level of despondency coming from Waverely is a bit silly. It's going to be a tough season. But no-one stays on top for ever. Knox looks set to win the competition this season, and three years ago I saw Trinity beat them 73-10. The wheel turns.
