Totally dominant performance by Cranbrook forwards who won many tightheads and line outs on the Waverley throw. Very hard play at the breakdown by Cranbrook back row of Makkas Mahoney and Summerhayes
Defence across the park very solid and organised.
Back line has plenty of pace and run some good hard lines with quick hands.
Renton at 10 was again outstanding but the score could have been more if he had had his kicking boots on

29 -7 at halftime when trinity lost corris (6) to a stretcher and number 1 to a red card
15 for trinity went well in first half but got swamped a couple of times and was quiet in the second half
Best for Knox chapman (8) but not a lot of stand out performances, just a solid team effort

A rather stop start game with Cranbrook finishing way too strongly. Possibly the poorest Waves team for sme time, with the set pieces particularly weak. Many tight heads and soft defense, even after a spirited first Ten minutes. Makas outstanstanding as was Mahoney. Outside centre very strong in defense and Edelstein scored a terrific try with great pace. Renton inconsistent and looks more of a 15.
Ref contributed to a very stop start affair. Little advantage and lots of breskdown penalties taking away from the spectacle.
Back to the drawing board for Waves, it will be a long season.

To me Waverley's problems are not about a lack of ability as much as a lack of structure. For a good portion of the game Waverley was able to scramble in defense and hold the Cranbrook boys.
But without structure the Waverley team tired and Cranbrook came home with a wet sail.

Agree that Cranbrook forwards destroyed Waverley's set pieces and both the no 6 and no 8 were excellent. I would disagree that the back line was good or that no 10 was outstanding - the no 14 is certainly quick though. To me Cranbrook appeared to play in the way that a professional coach would teach them how to play (given they have one it is no surprise). In other words, play to your strengths, infringe as much as you can within the limits of what the ref will tolerate and pin the opposition in their own territory. They indeed carried out their instructions which didn't make for much of a spectacle.
The ref must have the patience of Job because he continually penalised both teams for killing the ball; both captains were spoken to twice and Waverley individually once and Cranbrook two or three times. I would have yellow carded Cranbrook at least once for the amount of times they infringed at the breakdown but it was always outside their half and, given they dominated the set piece it don't cost them.
Waverley tackled manfully until they tired in the last 5-10 but I don't think they got in the Cranbrook 22 at all in the second half. My summation is that Cranbrook has big and skilled forwards, are defensively sound but don't offer much in the back line in attack except for pace on one wing. They will seek to wear down opponents and force errors rather than seek to win the game outright. In tight contests this may see them get over the line 9 times out of 10 but it won't be pretty.
For Waverley, they tried but don't have the players to threaten much. Structure is also an issue but not really today as they were strangled to death by Cranbrook. Still, the Waverley 16s show much more promise than last year's vintage so hopefully normal programming at QP will be resumed shortly.

Had to feel sorry for Waverley today they had a few trying very hard but as others have suggested looked like they had been thrown out there with little to no structure or coaching. The boys deserve better speaking to a few down there today the sportsmaster wanted to coach the side at the expense of old boys with better credentials submitting to do the job for less then what the school pays "mr soccer" a external group to run the schools soccer.
On a different note, since when have schoolboy teams been taking any penalties within 50 metres for a shot at goal. didnt like that.
Think brumbiejack was tough on cranbrook as well as the 6,8, 14 being outstanding I thought 12 ran straight and hard for good metres and 13 tackled well.
Waverley came out of the gates hard but not scoring in the first ten seem to deflat them. Unfortunately their attack was limited to pick and drives

I thought the Cranbrook No.15 had a terrific game. He returned a kick and from well outside the 60 meter line and handled the ball at least 3 times for the new 11 to score untouched. A tough first game for 11 who had a couple of big handling hiccups but great dive over the line for this one.
sorry yes 15 was very good too, cranbrook would have won by 60 if they kicked for touch instead of for goals from 50 in the first half
