Under lights @ KGI:

*Joeys 26(4 tries) defeated Knox 17(3 tries) in the 1st Xv fixture.
The winners benefitted from a tigerish (but small) forward pack that outbustled Knox in the 1st half. They attacked the Knox lineout, winning the first 4 of Knox throw-ins. In the backs their full-back & captain was a standout.
Joeys won the 2nd XV fixture(although they changed complete team in 2nd half) and Knox won the 16As game.
Not sure of result in the 15A game.

joeys won the 15A's 37-0

Any further injuries to the Knox side? The Knox forwards to seem do be under-powered at the moment.

Knox 1st XV V Joeys 1st Xv - Game was a tad messy. Knox was missing fair few key players in the backs and forwards (R.Mitchell, J.Taylor -subbed off for injury in beginning of game-, B.Johnson, F.Bursle, N.Cottee, C.Clark) which diminished their skill through out the game. 1st Half Joeys controlled most of the Ball scoring 3 tries with Knox only scoring 1. Come second half, Knox stepped up their attack and defence. Knox started to control more ball and find space on the field that they had struggled to find before, the game opened up and Knox was on the front foot. This allowed them to score two quick tries and catch up to Joey's...but unfortunately Joeys crossed Knox's line at the end of the game to score their final game winning try.

Sorry boys back from a trip overseas , From what I've been hearing around Wavlerley Rugby is that a few injuries have caught coaches searching for depth in their 1st XV squad. Definately a development year for the young Waverley side but don't let that get to some players, they still have a strong forward pack that will set a great platform for backs combinations in key areas can turn an alright team into a great side especially the 10,12,13 combo.

Wow...not a bad injury toll before the season proper has even started. The management of that football side must be quite impressed with their efforts in keeping a side intact. Hopefully the injuries are nothing too bad and all are back for the next game.

Or you could argue terrible management scheduling 3 games in 6 days, the week before the 1st round of the CAS... Pretty poor scheduling if you ask me. They might only be facing Alos in the first round but thats what they thought a couple of years ago when they got knocked off at college oval.

Ok ladies and gentlemen this Saturday marks the first round of CAS competition. The fixtures are, home team listed first (with my tip and margin):

St Aloysius v Knox - Knox 1-14 (I would have said by more but with Knox's heavy schedule of games fatigue could set in)
Barker v Waverley - Waverley 1-14
Trinity v Cranbrook - Trinity 14+

I hear alloys have finally started to import players! None of them have played in any of trial games yet though. Could be interesting to see how they go!

If we could please keep this forum civilized it would be much appreciated... but in saying this i do agree Cranbrooks no.7 is a very good playaer, i have watchaed him play against Shore and Aloysious and in both games he had his head over the ball at most rucks and was hard to move... The cranbrook side seems to have got it together a bit aswell... any chances of a competition darkhorse???

Well I definitely agree with this...hopefully no degradation of the thread into Sportal territory.

From my rather uninformed opinion, I think this year will be fairly close, so there could be dark horses. Though the normal sides will be there, some indifferent pre-season form and injuries have made the first week harder to pick than traditionally.

you hear totally incorrectly then, and it's Aloy's, not Alloys (which is a metal formed from combining two others - I know that because my son told me) Aloys focus' on education not chest beating and bleating - they'll do the same as they always do - the best they can with the resources they have, and will be proud of the team irrespective of the results - its the Aloys way.

After watching a few Waverley trial matches, I was suprised to see such a talented team play with such poor structure. I dont belive in bagging players but some of the Waverley forwards are very lazy and they think its appropriate to seagull around the field in an attempt to get their hands on the ball without doing the hard work up front. That being said, Waverley do have some talent and I wouldn't be suprised to see a hard worker like Nick Brbot make the CAS 1st over some of the lazy players that I am referring to.

Great to have you back on board, I have been missing the informative Waverley match reports.Who is injured/missing from Waverley 1st XV squad and who looks like playing 10, 12 & 13?

Have to agree with you, Waverley haven't got enough workers in their pack and now that they've lost their No 10 for the season they will struggle especially against a strong Knox side and a big Trinity pack.

Totally agree. This is the worst Waverley team i have seen in many a year. They seem to be really missing Mr Barr as a coach. Their forwards in particular had no idea, especially at L/O. And as has been mentioned already a couple of big seagulls trying to look good instead of getting in and winning the ball doesn't help much. Don't be surprised to see Waverley struggle this year...

What can Waverley do to improve their chances? Surely they must have more depth than what they are displaying.

After an inconsistant preseason waverley is looking like rebuilding with key returns of players such as talakai and rains (south sydney sg ball) thought to have just missed out on a toyota cup spot to souths young gun james roberts (nephew of amos) and the return of Nathan "Sandow" Steyn great ball in sloppy conditions against riverview unlucky to have given the game away with two crucial ref decisions going against the waverley team with young gun "Jarryd" Haynes Wileman and Chris Talakai both receiving yellow cards for minor misdemeanours. Waverley by 12 in a close encounter.
