I have actually heard that the fixture list this year will stay the same as last year just a swap in venues. This will mean for the first game of the season Knox vs Waverly at Death Valley and the last game of the season will be Knox vs Barker at Knox.

Your intel sounds pretty impressive. Not sure why the CAS would do this but I guess at the end of the day everyone has to play everyone else. It may be a pity, as you suggested, that the 1st game might decide the comp.

I assume all the schools Opens are currently doing pre-season training, not sure if that includes the 16s age group?

It's been playing on my mind a little bit recently, and that's the outcome of the big dance for CAS rugby 2018, and who will be crowned victorious. With the class of 2019 coming through and being the 'big-dogs', who will be the stand-outs for the comp and what is everyone's predictions on the final outcome of the comp.

I think it's going to be a two horse race this year between Knox and Waverley, a rivalry which has become quite strong over the last few years with last being an exception with Knox's very, very poor season. And I feel that this year with Knox vs Waverley being at death valley will add some spice to the mix.

The match-ups that I think we all want to see on the pitch this year between Waves and Knox will ones to remember for sure. Molloy vs Breden? Rechner vs Hutchinson Walters? Grobler vs Moretti? Volkman vs Fitzgerald?

I know it's only early days, but what is everyone's predictions / Match-ups they're keen to see for the upcoming 2019 season

Cranbrook comfortably beat Knox at Knox by 20+ points, and Cranbrook had more year 11's on the field than Knox did (I believe it was 12 out of 15), with this win in the bank Cranbrook will surely have Knox in the bag when they play at home with a virtually all year 12, returning team

You have every reason to expect Cranbrook to be a major force in the CAS next year, and good luck to them, that will be really good for the comp, from your local CAS rival!

I would expect Joeys to be a major threat again in the GPS 1sts in 2019, along with Kings and Scots.
The Kings back line should be huge and electric.

In relation to Joeys v the Waves, here's what I believe is worth having a look at, if you can make it.
In the 1sts the Waves will be strong, and Joeys will be very strong, but it will be played at Death Valley, standing room only I believe, not sure of any dates as yet, but I will post them asap, that may take a few months yet.

Aside from the 1s, the 16a and 15a games should be absolute beauties between Joeys and the Waves, both schools have seriously strong sides, along with Riverview in the 16as.
The 15as will be played at Joeys I believe but the 16as should be early eg 9-10am at QP.
The Joeys 16as side is as usual very well drilled, the Waves side is enormous and has some extreme natural ability and will destroy most sides they play, this all assumes players from both schools aren't taken into the 1sts, which is possible.

I am very happy that we get to play the GPS sides again, and in particular, Joeys, Kings and View this year.
Let's hope this remains the status quo as it was for the vast majority of time.
I am also hoping that the majority of GPS supporters really enjoy this cross association play, given the Barker and Waves teams over the last 2 years, and the evenness appears to be growing.

Have a look at Quick Hands post today on the AAGPS 2019 thread.
I believe it is the Newington Sports Calendar for 2019 and it shows most of the Rugby match ups starting from May 5, ie the Trials between GPS/CAS/ISA and then the GPS comp after.

Yes Waves off to Japan, the tour is in April, so baring injury we should be fine for the start of the GPS trails, early May 2019.

I think the Cranbrook game could be the Big game for both teams.

Can't argue with your points,as it's true all these issues can be relevant and for many boys all is true, and I am certainly not suggesting that everyone is abdicating their parental responsibilities.

It's not that Basketball isn't a good game at all, I just have seen that below probably A-C level (so the vast majority of teams these days), all of the above is probably not true, often parents don't even turn up to watch.
You still need to get into traffic regardless of the sport, and a lot of people do have multiple kids to consider, so the same applies to any sport.

One of the misunderstood areas about cricket is that the games are limited overs, so against all the comments like "it goes all day" it doesn't. Cricket is probably not promoted well in a lot of schools, and it is our National sport.

My opinion is that Basketball is a default sport for a whole lot of reasons for the majority of players but clearly not the serious players.

The soccer issue is as you point out very difficult, and yes the state of admin is a REAL issue, but I don't think this is what mummy thinks about, it's the contact.

If another high profile non impact sport was on offer and only took 20 minutes, I suspect it would clean them all up!
Thus is the state of play for a lot of parents/kids these days IMO.
If playing a sport wasn't compulsory in the big schools, I bet the number of teams would dramatically reduce in these sports.

Agree with your last point. If the compulsory nature of sport was removed, Rugby and Cricket would still soldier on, but Soccer and Basketball would struggle.

Looks like maybe a tough number of early rounds in our CAS comp.
But as they say, you have to beat them all at some stage, to win the comp!

Just got word of a possible import by Knox. Year 11 and plays Backrow/2Row and was apart of both NSW Country and GenBlue. Could be a possible upset in the Knox side. Does anyone have info?

As Australia’s first Rugby school, Newington played its initial game against a team from Sydney University in 1869 - 150 years ago, followed by its first interschool match against King’s in 1870.

Knox students entering Year 7 this year will be in Year 12 for its Centenary in 2024.

Gala Day will guarantee a large crowd of Knox students, parents and old boys to watch the matches on No.1 Oval.

Based on my experience Knox will be prepared than Newington. Back in my days at New, playing Knox first up, they had the benefit of more matches played and their teams better prepared with more training sessions. Although, Newington Rugby is more professional now they will still be at a disadvantage playing Knox on their home grounds.
