While I was watching the ITM and pondering how to help those adverse to the UC Canberra Vikings colours but willing to show their support, right there on my screen appeared a potential idea. One that could even be used as a fundraiser for Canberra Rugby.

So this what I spotted:

Which lead me to think what about if the UC Canberra supporters had Vikings helmets?

As an offering of peace we could allow UC Canberra Vikings supporter to paint their "clan" (aka: club) colours on their helmets and still be showing their support for the UC Canberra Vikings team.

If someone in the Canberra rugby community was to source them and sell them as as part of a fund raiser for local club / junior rugby ready for the televised home game , IMO its a win - win.

I have included a preview of a crowd shot of UC Canberra Vikings game with supporters wearing their helmets.

So thoughts people? (be gentle!)

Rams have beat you lot to it. The boys behind the supporters group have them made and ready for distribution. Giving away one to the first 100 punters to show at the Coogee Bowlo for the pre game function before Country/Rams on Saturday. Rams also have a Shofar. A Ram horn.

I thought the Smiths played on the opposite sides to those where they've been selected. Am I wrong? And the reserve props also seem to have the wrong numbers on. Is there something funny going on or am I just sadly astray?

Rodney Iona missing - injured? Expect Perry will get some time off the bench in coming games.

Still injured and should be right for the next game apparently. I feel for the young Perry lad, 3 or 4 Flankers from other states he was better than for Australian 20s are getting games at other NRC franchises. Shame Canberra has such good back row depth, especially with the signing of Doyle. Hope Perry gets an opportunity.

After seeing the Spirit team, fair to say it will be a GF between Vikings and Rising. Lock it in.

I know, I haven't been following too keenly but I thought they'd have a better XV.

Where are the Haylett-Petty brothers? I was particularly keen to see the younger one play against fully developed athletes.

There's some news in the Perth Spirit thread that says they are managing some of the Force players due to heavy travel loads this year.

Understandable if true.

Yeah looks like the home games will consist heavily of force players and the away games for the Locals at least for the first few rounds.

Vikings were one of the favourites in the last ARC and wound up being very underwhelming, getting trounced by the Rebels in Round 1................

However, they should be a much tighetr unit this time around wth most of the club players being around the Brumbies during the year, and the large representation of Tuggeranong.............

Can't believe they haven't given Robbie a crack at 10, he was one of the most talented play makers at junior level and hasn't got another crack there since playing a few games at 12 for the Brumbies in 2011. Glad to see edan get a go on the bench, not sure what happened to Powell but he certainly deserves a shot, he is a better 9 than his uni teammate dowsett!

They're scraping the barrel as it is. Clouston would have been good but looks like he's out for a while.

Mckellar has a pretty good handle on the available talent, it just isn't there.
Mckellar has no idea on available talent! There are locks available, I am biased I know but Toby Wilson was up there with Penca and Makin for best forwards at our club this year, the amount of work he gets through is unbelievable. In saying that I don't have a problem with Cree being picked in the row. But to say that talent isn't there and mckellar is all over it is false!

You need to let McKellar know that there's guys running around Queanbeyan's U16's that are ready to step up.............

I have only suggested that 2 other QBN players are ready to make the step, not an unreasonable thing for a grand final team don't you think? After all they weren't beaten by 100 in the final?

Steady on Grant. Wilson, presuming he's the second rower I'm thinking of, is 6'2 max and pretty limited. Wholehearted and tough as nails no doubt (as is the basic requirement for any Whites forward) but not at the next level.

Anyway,

As FTS mentioned Iona is injured and I saw him doing some rehab work with a knee heavily strapped yesterday. Hopefully will be right soon.

He is taller than that but you're right not the tallest second rower going around! He was better than the 6 foot 8 second rower we had come this year who somehow got at itm contract. Wouldn't think Cree would be much taller than 6'2 but he has been picked in the second row, granted he is a more talented player than Toby but he won't get through the amount of 'shit' work that is required from a second rower! And before everyone tells me on Sunday how wrong I am about this team, I have no doubt it will be a good team, I would say they are favourites for the title based on the amount if Brumbies talent they have!
