Brumby Runners or whatever they were called last night went down 22-14 to Hawkes Bay from NZ. Many players were rested after playing Reds A only on Saturday.

This game was very underwhelming with the Runners scrum giving up at least 2 tight heads and going backwards regularly. Also, the amount of dropped ball in the game was worse than you'd see in a junior game.

Hard to see standouts but Jackson Selby did play well, and Lindsay Crook did eventually score a try after bombing a certainty just minutes before.

Get Crook outa there,he is no where good enough. If you are going to bomb tries, hog the ball and miss tackles then, there are no better players to have that Rodney Iona, Vilii Iongi, and Palmer Fau - these guys are experts.

Thought Crook had a heap of talent up here in Qld. He is only a kid at the moment and maybe just needs a bit of time and opportunity to mature. Certainly is bigish and bloody quick.

Yeah - like other lads from recent school years let him make mistakes at the senior level and learn how to correct them.

I hope to see him in the team v. Junior Tahs on Saturday.

Good to see people can't get a joke - read my comment again.

At a recent training 'warm down', 75% of academy players at Brumbs indicated they would not be returning - ever, never, ever. Coach ineptitude and club situation as co conspirators.

You got me territorian - sorry about that. Not that I'm hard to fool.

Keep at it and follow the works of Bruce the Great Ironicon - the master can teach you much.

I tend to lead more to the nuances of sarcasm myself.
Last week Coleman gave two lads a direct challenge, play well against Hawkes bay and you will be in the tem for Sydney.
Both did as commanded, one scored a try and set up the other, while the second player was also very solid.
yesterday , whatever respect Coleman had from the academy players was lost as neither of those players are travelling to Sydney tomorrow. When challenged by one player his response was - that's life, your're a big boy now.

Pretty harsh way to run a mob of young blokes - whilst ultimately the player is judged or should be judged on rugby ability when these blokes are in control or placed in a mentoring role (as well as the coach) with young men, many straight out of school maybe a bit of extra understanding, consideration etc etc should be given. Not all young players step up to Super 15 standard in the first year or two so developemnt is definitely required, not only as rugby players but young men as well.

So Darren Coleman, we can assume with only 2 games to go the board won't be sacking you but - how are those team selections working for you then. What are you going to do to unleash all the raw talent waiting to burst forth.
Probably keep it wrapped up in cotton wool.

what raw talent are you speaking of?

Jnr waratahs 19 def Runners 17 in what was a very ordinary display from both sides.
Best for the Runners was Nick White #10 and Andrew Smith #14 but again some of the ouside runners backs just aren't on the same page. This is a team sport gentlemen, leave the individual stuff to the S15 squad, they are the ones playing for themselves but the habit seems to have caught on all the way through the camp.

Coleman has resigned. He jumped before he was pushed. Players threatened to walk out of Academy, lots of stories going around about his behaviour after Darwin 7s (alcohol related) and other stories about his treatment of players. Guess the writing was on the wall for him.

Takes a lot of guts or stupidity to threaten to walk from an enviable academy spot. Someone has said there are only 2 Academies next year - come on BP spill the beans on the alcohol goss

BP

I've got to say that, although I knew nothing about the situation apart from what I read in this thread, I thought some of the talk about Coleman (no relation to the player, by the way) was hogwash.

Should never have doubted you BP.

We know he has resigned but it would be nice for the players did for him what they did for Friendly - in this case it could only result in a more competitive academy team.
A report on one player was unsatisfactory because quote "whenever he made a line break (which is nearly every time he gets the ball) he gets so far in front of the support he is isolated". and therefore an unsatisfactory player.
Coleman prefers the players to trip, stumble and fall close to the support.
I would have thought it better to have the support geed up that whenever this player gets the ball - get to him quick because the chance are he will make a break. Incidentally this player also scored a try from his line break after a second phase and a gain of 40 m. he also castigated him for a chip chase that also resulted in a try.
Terrible player, naughty player for being so talented. Better to dive at half way and have a ruck.

Or just perhaps to teach this player to keep his feet better in contact and thus create more time for his support?
