The Brumbies certainly have more playing depth than people gave them credit for preseason.

After the Saders V Stormers game this was a step down to second grade.

Did any game in the Australian conference so far made you feel like the Saders V Stormers game.

That was perhaps the worst performance from the Rebels since inception. The handling and skills execution was just woefull. The SHute game this afternoon between the Woodies and Norths was of higher standard.

Well done to the Ponies. I will be very interested to see how their direct and straight forward game plan goes in the Republic.

You'll be glad to know that both Damien Hill and Gareth Delve agreed that this was a terrible performance.

Well done to the Brumbies on the bonus point win, but I thought they should have pumped a very ordinary Rebels side by a lot more. A hell of a lot changed for both teams in a week.

I thought Kingi and Huxley were the best for the Rebels when they came on, and Gerard and Jones tried hard all night, but they looked a standard or two below the Brumbies.

Hooper was again very impressive, as were Fardy, White and McCabe.

Oh dear. Oh deary, deary me.

Were the Rebels in a hurry to get to Canberra? I think there must have been a bit of a panic departure because they left the bags holding their gameplan and talent back in Melbourne.

Nasty. Enough said and let's just pretend that game never happened......

The forwrds were great and the backs did well. They outplayed the Rebels all over, nothing to do with their ability og game plans left in Melbourne, the whole Brumbies squad/team should be very proud.

Many stood and applauded at half time, deservedly. Yes they played down in the 2nd, but a bonus point win was by far enough for this team, so well done all.

Most enjoyable game since that really cold night in May.

That match, or should I say the first half of that match (because that is all I could bear to watch) was an epic of its kind. The Rebels put up the worst performance I can ever remember watching from a professional rugby team, bar none.

Cipriani, in particular, played as though he had a massive hangover. The rest of them were inept, bumbling, and spineless.

Not within the Conference, the standard of play has been a long way below the other conferences. The only marker for our intraconference that has been close in for a couple of the derby's passion and commitment eg. Reds V Tahs.

Between the conferences Reds V Sharks was good until the Reds lost shape with the injuries. But as a case in point tell me which Oz side would lose both locks and then a back-up lock, play a hooker on the flank and still push the Saders all the way. Yes the Stormers are very good but the excuse factory that is Oz Rugby would justify a total whitewash of one of our sides in similar circumstances.

Lest this thread and those like it becomes a dirge of spiralling despair, why don't we turn to: why is it so, and what must be done to make it much less so. (And no, rugby on FTA TV is not going to happen without much more success by our S15 and Wallaby teams, and, no, there's not going to be a national competition any time soon, for similar reasons. These old romantic favourites need to stay in their wistful place.)

There are only two real 'bright spots' in professional Australian rugby today: one, the exciting and remarkably rapid revival of the Brumbies and, two, the lingering embers of the Reds' 2011 success that's (for now) consistently pulling 30,000+ crowds to Suncorp. The rest is largely, at best, 'same old, same old' and increasing commercial fragility, whatever the PR boosters say to try and hide the hard facts. Additionally, we were served up a highly disappointing RWC campaign only 8 months ago.

Across two oceans we see a wonderfully revived Chiefs playing with skill and flair, a team that last year many commentators said would take years to rebuild to something successful. The Hurricanes have boldly purged ranks and are on the turn. In SA, the thing that I'm enjoying and admiring the most is how well the Bulls have been revitalised and, even more notably, how top SA S15 rugby is really migrating from the 'win by kicks and defend via the wall of massive forwards' (kind of dull) model to one where back line attack is really coming into its own and yielding very competent and entertaining play where the whole team(s) is engaged in delivering power and speed and finesse.

That was a dreadful match for Oz rugby. It was no fault of the Brumbies who were clinical in the 1st half but one has to discount their performance because of the standard of their opponents on the night.

Or is that unfair? Was that a really top performance that would have held the Brumbies in good stead against a competition top dog? We can't really know; we can only mention the old homily that you can only play against the team that showed up to play against you on the night.

Any how can we judge the standings of the several Wallabies candidates in the two teams? Would that good Rat player Pat McCabe, my personal MOTM, who looked like a Ones player playing against the Twos, made any impression playing for the other team and would his direct opponent, JOC (James O'Connor), have looked like a star playing for the Brumbies? Would another Rat, the irrepressible Scott Fardy, who must have been the MOTM for others, have looked even average had he played for the Rebels instead of his Rat locking partner, Hugh Pyle?

Yarda, yarda.

Whatever Lee, I went, I watched, I enjoyed more than any other game since May 04.

As I said, I enjoyed a game of Rugby, which in all honesty I haven't since that cold, cold night.

I enjoyed a great Brumbies win, I enjoyed the forwards continually winning their battle and I enjoyed the backs having a go, I enjoyed Jesse attacking the ball and going for it, I enjoyed lots of it.

Did they need to do anymore than win the second half, no, would the coach have been happy with the 2nd half? I think he would have been over the Gregan/Larkham stand. As has been said they are a young side learning all the time, it was a huge return from the previous week.

Did the Rebels show up to be that bad, I don't think so, did everything go right for the Brumbies, I think so.

If that was dreadful for Oz Rugby, give me more! I had almost given up on Rugby, especially after last season, but that game will keep me in until next season, no matter what happens from now until then. Yes, I'm fickle, but don't have Fox and don't have the income to waste an evening, but with the effort that the Brumbies put in, I'll support that.

Plus I enjoyed it with a couple of mates and my son.

Yeah, massively sad panda. Always next week, yada yada.

Did get to go and see my West Coast boys smack the crap out of GWS at Blacktown, cheered me right up.

That was a dreadful match for Oz rugby.

Sorry, could not disagree more. It is true that the Rebels were poor, and it was a dreadful match for them, but the Brums played hard (even if in the second half they slowed down) and we'll take the win without looking back.

Last week the Brums played a different game against a different team, they lost for a number or reasons, we took the loss and moved on - was that game equally dreadful for Oz rugby? If not, I'd like to know why.

The Brumbies are a young team without much S15 experience, they are learning on the run, and every time they win a match against a more established side its party time for us supporters. They obviously still lack some of the important attributes of the past champion Brumbies teams, but thinking too hard about what it should be like sometimes takes away the fun.

From our point of view, when the flood gates opened, it went from a 50% piss up to nothing but a piss up.

Richmond won, 1/2 ain't bad.
