Brumbies v Reds Rd 14 Sat 17th May @ GIO Stadium 7.35pm AEST

Siding with the Bumbreeze for this one. They seem to be in the best form of the Aus sides and the least impacted by injury meaning they are the most likely to go deep in the finals. A win here helps maximise their chances of a top 2 finish.

Thought the Reds were the clear form team in the early rounds but they seem to be limping home.

I don't get Brumbies supporters claiming their superb, magnificent, outstanding, breathtaking, spendid, sublime, superior, marvelous, exqusite and glorious team as underdogs. Brumbies by a score that make Queensland think about not playing rugby anymore.

Let's go get them Reds.

Quite literally...

Can't get a read on them this year - big fluctuations in the performance week to week, but also often some big fluctuations in personnel. I don't think playing nearly every single game in the wet has helped either.
Always hard to compete for a flag when you run out teams missing multiple test players almost every week. Honestly so disappointed in how the year has played out injury wise.

Anyway - can't see the brumbies being within 30.

I want the Reds to win as they’re my team and screw those sad sack Ponies. But if the Brumbies win I’m happy as it’s one step closer to them locking down a top 2 spot, and if the Reds can’t win it I’m all about Team Australia. So, win-win… kinda…?

I do think the Brumbies will win this and win it well.

Brumbies supporters claiming underdog ststus? I think Slim is the sole Brumby fan to have posted and his observation is clearly an attempt to get some banter going - same as Sully with his "Brumbies by 50" prediction. But otherwise, I concur entirely with your insightful description of the Brumbies team.

Brumbies should be favourites but this year there are many examples of favourites being overturned.

I wasn't joking. Maybe not 50 but I don't think it will be close.

My first point in checking comparative teams is 16, 17, 18. I'm OK with what we've got there, not ecstatic but OK. Then to the starting front row: Fa'agase is inconsistent but easily capable of matching AAA if he holds his shit together. I don't see Asiata as pacing Pollard but then Pollard doesnt impress me as at top three hooker. If I'm right then Asiata won't be far off. Nongorr v Slipper for me is something to get excited about - Nongorr for me by a lot in the set piece but overall you just cant dismiss Slipper's general play ability and experience. Nongorr needs to be getting really enthusiastic about this match.

Then I look at the line out. man who knows what line up turns up with the Reds these days? And the Brumbies are more consistent but not scarey if that makes sense.

The loose forwards, at the start of the season I would have LAUGHED at the Brumbie fan arrogance in this area, in this game, the laughter is reversed.

I know that it wont be an accepted position, but I'll take this Red backline over this Brumby backline.

But it starts and finishes with what the pack can achieve. Which (highly annoyingly, in this game is surely ) is with the Brumbies.

Sully, I'm not seeing a Red win, but mate it won't be 50. OR at least a 50 point differential would be an utter fail.

I know a lot of comments in here should be taken with a grain of salt. But…

Brumbies deserve to be favourites, especially at home and given they stuck it to Qld at Suncorp, but I think the Recs still have a good crack.

The hype about the Reds at the start of the year wasn’t that they had a star studded first XV. I think everyone acknowledged the Brumbies were clearly ahead on that front. It was that we had the best depth we’ve had for probably ever. So even though our injury list is extensive the team we are running out is still pretty decent.

Also, while guys like Wilson & Lynagh have been excellent Brial has played plenty of rugby this year and has been generally very good & McLaughlin-Phillips hasn’t been hidden away at all and has had starts against the Chiefs, the Crusaders & the Drua plus plenty of minutes off the bench. We still have Wallabies at 9, 12, 13 & 15 and the forward pack has plenty of test experience. It isn’t our strongest bench of the year but it’s still decent.

Last time we played the Brumbies their pack rolled over ours. If we let that happen again Ikitau & Wright et al will be looking superstars and there’ll be calls for Meridith as a Smokey for Gold (okay - maybe that’s a stretch).

But our pack really doesn’t have any excuse for that. Early in the season we were winning the collisions. We’ve dropped off in the last few weeks. Guys like Asiata, Canham, Nonggorr, De Lutiis, Smith & Brial have to get the job done up front.

I guess if the Brumbies win no one is really going to think too much of it but if guys like the 6 above (particularly the first 5) really want to impress Schmidt then this is a red hot opportunity to put their name in lights. If nothing else they should at least want to make Tualima eat his words.
