It might just be a trial, but that's not a good early sign for the Force scrum...

Over at TWF some of the guys who were actually at the game find this statement abit strange. They said in the first stanzer the Ponnies were going back at a rate of knots (Mafu Charles and Cowan) then they swaped a few players around and nothing muched changed.

No, no I think Mudskipper is right here guys.

Barbarian, A wearisome troubled outburst with no genuine observation… fact remains the Force had zip on the day… and the Brumbies did well in their first test… the fact that Graham rested players only shows their lack of depth and his aversion to risk...

Note, cynicism is a poor hiding place… go back to ironing your Tah-man suit… :D

Headline for the record.. “Brumbies easily account for Force in trial…” SMH

All the various match reports state that the Force scrum struggled all game... I've heard the same thing from others who were at the match...

Anyways, some positives out of the Brumbies, but you can't take too much away from it.

What I wrote in another thread:

Let's not summon the mocker gods on this one...

It was a good win by the Brumbies, and there were some promising things to come out of it, particularly when they played a lot of fringe players...

And the Force would be concerned about their poor performance of their starting frontrow up against the Brumbies' 2nd/3rd stringers... but the Force were still completely missing 7 of their 15 starting players for the match....

Moving on from there, I have other questions about the match:

1. How did Coleman play at fullback and will he be a surprise selection for round 1 if fit?

2. Local lock Tom Murday started the match, but he's not in the squad or the EPS... how does that work? He's obviously impressed White to get such an opportunity.

3. Who will the Brumbies' goal kicker be? Nic White shared the kicking duties with Holmes, so he would have to be the favourite?

1. I'd say he would be running out as fullback until McCabe returns. If he is out now Crawford or Mogg would be front runners.

2. Trials aren't limited to the squad and a number of teams run out non-squad players. Murday had finished up training with the Brumbies but with a player still missing from the forwards (Auelua) he makes for a solid spot filler.

3. White will be first choice 9 and should be goal kicker, I don't expect to see much of Holmes in the starting side for him to be full time kicker. White's long range kicks will definitely come in handy this year.

I'd like to know how new backs Sitauti, Tomane, Kuridrani, Cox & Crawford went... Sounds like the Brumbies forwards were good, according to Graham anyway...

Ahh... so you haven't seen the game have you MS.

So your statement 'the Force had zip on the day' was more of a literal interpretation of the score rather than an analysis of the rugby. Because you hadn't seen any of it to know precisely what the Force did or did not have.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I read Auelua arrives this week but wont play in the Reds trial...

Plenty of reports saying the same even on the TWF site... You really have no point but to chip, now give Tahmans boots a polish...

McCabe seems to be in line for outside centre, so I hope he's not pushed out to fullback.

Crawford or Holmes would be my picks for there.

Mogg is in the EPS so he'll only feature when there's injuries. Which I guess is a possibility if Coleman is out.

Then you should quote these reports.

I am not chipping mate, I have an issue of people coming on here with a strong opinion (that some would see as derogatory towards the Force) and yet it turns out you have formed that opinion without watching a second of the game. The media reports don't suggest the Force were entirely hopeless (as you did), and I would ask you that you quote these Force fans who allegedly agree with you please.

Otherwise you opinion is worth precisely zero.

Barbarian... Mate Force had Zip it was shown on the score board.... furthermore I’m not accountable to your silly taunts buddy… your earlier rant was childish …

Now be a good chap and go clean out Waugh’s Captains locker… Rocky needs more room…

Sounds a bit like sour grapes to be honest...

The Brumbies had a rough year in 2011. If making so much of a trial game helps some of them sleep at night, good for them :)

Judging by the above article I would suggest the Force are making more of it...

"While Force coach Richard Graham did not want to comment about the way the Brumbies packed, it is understood officials at SANZAR - Super Rugby's governing body - received a complaint about the tactics."

So what this says is that The Force complained to SANZAR but the West doesn't want to directly say that.

Interesting article: Has Coach Graham made a complaint in private to SANZAR but wont comment? Howsthat !~ a formal compliant from a TRIAL match, jeez now tell me again, it doesn't mean anything to these guys? its just a run in the park...

Referees have been asked to scrutinise the Brumbies' front-row tactics heading into the Super Rugby season after their 25-0 trial win over the Western Force in Darwin on Saturday.

The engagement is always a contentious area and former Springboks World Cup winning coach Jake White and his forwards coach Laurie Fisher dipped deep into their box of tricks to help their front three get the upper hand in the set piece.
They held a higher crouch position, dropped late and made their own call as the referee called for the engagement, causing confusion and frustration in the Force front row.

While Force coach Richard Graham did not want to comment about the way the Brumbies packed, it is understood officials at SANZAR - Super Rugby's governing body - received a complaint about the tactics.

Graham made no excuses about the loss, saying his side was "outdone" in the physical clashes and in their attitude to the game.

Hooker Nathan Charles also said the side was "out-enthused".
