Without wanting to spoil they party, it appears Giteau and Elsom are again in extreme doubt for this match.
Giteau pulled out of the training session after about 30 mins and Elsom is going to need acupuncture on the flight over to JHB. We'll know more on Thursday night when the team is announced.

As acupuncture does nothing, he is screwed.

Your news saddens me Brumby Jack - saddens and angers. I'm starting wonder whether Elsom will ever actually justify his hefty price tag.

In the Bulls case you can bet on simplicity although they have combined it well with moving the ball wide. The Duvenhage try last week was a good example and well the semi and final last year not attractive enough for you?
Think you mean Gerhard van den Heever? Duvenhage is the Paarl Gym Stormers scrummie. van den Heever is actually quicker then Habana for the record.

Sorry

Mixed up my newbies.

vd Heever it is. I read that he clocked a faster time over 25 metres than Habana last year.

Yep watch him exploding. The Brutes got a winner here.

Myself is still a bit surprise about Werner Krugers scrumming against Wiaan du preez in round 1. Pretty sure Gary Botha makes a huge differense but Kruger looked dead shite last year in the CC.

I fully expected du Preez to nail Kruger but jeez it was a surprise. Must be Botha but I'm sure Kruger has worked hard.

The Bulls scrum looked the best I'd seen it in years but it's only one game and can all chnage quickly when one Benn Robinson comes to town.

"Giteau pulled out of the Brumbies' training session in Perth on Monday night and had a scan on his injured quadriceps muscle yesterday.

The scan cleared Giteau of further injury and he flew out with the Brumbies for South Africa last night. He will be re-assessed when he arrives.

The Bulls was one of the best scrums last year against the Tahs as well

The Brumbies had the Bulls scrum in all sorts of trouble last year - won a tight head. The Bulls hammered the Brumbies lineout in the same match.

bulls scrum getting smashed by an aussie scrum again. Say what you like about aussie forwards being supposedly inferior, I see aussie scrums smashing SA and NZ scrums week in week out.

Bulls scrum did look good against the cheaters though.

Big concern will be the breakdown, if the Bulls can do what the Force did they will definitely punish us with their backs. Hopefully Elsom can add more aggression and help out with the breakdown.

Thats why I want Kuhn in the 7 jersey. He and Stegmann was poison against the Lions in their warm up match against the Lions.

Look like the Paul Roos youngster, Stefan Dippenaars will play in the injured Pretorius 13 jersey. Will be his biggest test thus far

Dippenaar to face Mortlock

Pretoria - Vodacom Bulls youngster Stefan Dippenaar is set to get the opportunity of a lifetime this weekend against the Brumbies at Loftus Versfeld. Dippenaar, a former SA under-20 player who played two Vodacom Super 14 games for the Bulls last year, is set to fill the position left vacant by the injury to Springbok Jaco Pretorius after the latter received a heavy blow on his thigh in his side’s opening 51-34 win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

This is the impression left after the 22-year old Dippenaar, who hails from Moorreesburg, slotted into the position in the absence of Pretorius at Tuesday’s practice session at Loftus Versfeld. If he is confirmed as the starter, he will have a big ask to face Wallaby stalwart Stirling Mortlock in the midfield in Saturday’s clash.

The Bulls also have other options they can consider with Jacques-Louis Potgieter able to slot into inside centre and Wynand Olivier capable of moving outside, but it is unlikely they will choose this option and disturb the momentum built up by the backline with a shuffle.

Francois Hougaard is also set to return to the side at the expense of John Mametsa this weekend. Hougaard withdrew on the morning of the Bloemfontein game and Mametsa filled in well, and was one of the stars in an excellent opening performance by the Bulls.

Other than those two changes, the Bulls are likely to stick to the same formula that saw them score six tries on the weekend and according to Head coach Frans Ludeke can’t wait to get back to Loftus Versfeld.

“It is always nice to play at home and doesn’t interrupt with our routine.

When the crowd comes it creates that special environment and the players really appreciate that,” Ludeke said.

“But there are some areas that we need to get right this coming weekend. We are playing against a quality side and one of the top teams in the competition.

“They played away from home and won they have got a lot of good internationals. So it’s going to be another tough weekend.”

The Bulls know that they will have to up their game at the restarts, where the Cheetahs scored 11 points. But with a solid scrum platform and their game plan working well, Ludeke isn’t worried.

“The restarts we managed to adjust nicely and we will make one or two adjustments to make sure we have numbers and are sorted out,” Ludeke explained.

“The scrums were a great platform where we felt we could launch from and on defence there was a huge battle in attacking the gain line.

“The challenge now will be for us to get turnovers and stop guys from getting over the gain line. We have to be honest when it comes to this process, there are no shortcuts.”

Probable Bulls team:
Zane Kirchner; Gerhard van den Heever, Stefan Dippenaar, Wynand Olivier, Francois Hougaard; Morné Steyn, Fourie du Preez; Pierre Spies, Pedrie Wannenburg, Deon Stegmann, Victor Matfield (captain), Danie Rossouw, Werner Kruger, Gary Botha, Gurthö Steenkamp.

Fantastic opportunity for the youngster Stefan Dippenaar. Bulls scrum will get harassed all day though no doubt. Look forward to Lealiifano and Giteau playing in unison if MG makes it on to the paddock.

I fear that if the Brumbies keep their discipline and defensive line intact, they might just pip this one

Based on the Brumbies scrum against the Force and what the Bulls did to the Cheetahs last weekend I back the Bulls to do the Brumbies scrum. Anyway the game will be won or lost at the breakdown. Now there's a great ingisht for you.
