The ACT Brumbies would like to express their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Garry ‘Quinzo’ Quinlivan, who has passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86.

A foundation Member of the Brumbies Family for over five decades and Life Member of ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union, Quinzo has volunteered as the Brumbies Assistant Manager and longtime bagman for over five decades since the club was established in 1996.

Quinzo played a pivotal role in establishing the Brumbies ethos and culture, implementing a strong work ethic around the office and change room. Known for often being the first to arrive and last to leave, Quinzo’s dedication left a lasting impact on Brumbies staff and players, past and present.

Garry ‘Quinzo’ Quinlivan represented the heart and soul of the organisation and will be sorely missed by everyone at the ACT Brumbies.

Sad day for Canberra. Awful for the Brumbies boys not in town

5 decades - wow! Was there a Brumbies entity pre-1996??
Sounds like a top Rugby person, the type every club / team / organisation need. Commiserations to Brumbies folk.

Absolute stalwart for the game.

Prior to the pony adoption in '96, I suppose the entity was just ACT rugby rather than ACT Brumbies.

I think they started building some prominence in the 70s (not that I know anything about rugby back that far) which culminated in their win over Wales in 1979. Then, as now, the Welsh were a better side than than the Wallabies...

Proof of the playing group’s affection for Quinzo came in 1999 when the Brumbies players in the Wallabies squad paid for his airfare to the UK for the World Cup.

He was in tears as Steve Larkham kicked a long-range field goal against the Springboks in the semi-final.

Joe Roff presented Quinzo with his jumper from that game. He was in tears again.

He received plenty of accolades over the years, including the Spirit of Rugby Award in 2020, Life Membership of the ACT and Southern NSW Rugby Union and the Brumbies Service to Rugby Award is named in his honour.

Paywalled, but...

Rugby Australia has ramped up its bid to take control of the ACT Brumbies, sending in auditors for another round of financial investigation.

Good call. Muirhead is 30 and Sapsford was on the Wing at stages. 30 isn't old but he isn't a power style player so who knows how long he'll stick around here or look overseas to extend the career.
