Brumby Runner

Didn't he start a test? I recall him being held up on one run and being turned over on another. He seemed to lack mongrel and impact to me.

I think his work rate has increased in the super xv season and is superb but if your picking a lock for his workrate then you can't go past Carter.

Cheika also stated he wanted two types of locks, A line-out specialist which Simmons and Mumm cover, and a bruiser which Douglas and Skelton cover. This is why Horwill missed out as he didn't quite fit the role of either and was more inbetween. Same reason maybe for Jones.

Kind of contradicts the preference of Carter over Jones but then again thats only an assumption anyway. Also questions why Horwill was even given a shot to begin with (over Jones).

From my recollection (memory only - I haven't checked) Luke came on with about 10 minutes to go in his first cap, and that was when he spilt the ball or got turned over on his first two carries.

In addition to his workrate, he is also a good lineout option, so really offers a lot as a potential lock at test level from next year. As I said, I'm not arguing for his selection over anyone else, including Sam, but I do think he is suffering from a bandwagon effect regarding his supposed poor form at test level.

Yeah, it seemed fairly unanimous among posters here that Luke Jones would be in the squad at least...........

The discussion about his alleged poor test form didn't start to occur until after the squad was announced............

I'm starting to wonder if Luke Jones did something on the EOYT last year that Cheika didn't like.. off the field.

It's a world cup year. Making "hard" decisions is part of the program. He's not gonna be selected at tighthead lock, Simmons nailed down the starting loosehead lock. He needed to show he was better than either Mumm or Fardy across 4/6 to be selected and Chieka obviously felt he didn't.

If the lack of selection continues intp 2016, especially if he continues to improve, it's probably fair to start questioning.

Anyway Brumbies, how do you have so many Super Quality Locks? Carter, Fardy, Smiler, Enever and Arnold, with Staniforth coming up behind? Obviously Fardy and to a lesser extent Smiler play a lot of 6, but that's a mighty deep engine room.

I thought he monkeyed up his starting opportunity on the EOYT with that pass to noone almost within our own 22. Against Ireland I think. You wouldn't see that from Mumm or Fardy. They have the big game experience not to stuff up under pressure. They might not be as barnstorming as Jones but they are safer.

Enever especially was a revelation at the end of the season when Carter was injured..........

I think he might have wound up topping lineout steals for the Brumbies, although might have to double check that?

The Brumbies are certainly in a good position next year to push for the top of the Aussie conference and have been lucky with the post-RWC exodus with only two high profile departures in White and Mogg.............

Nic White, despite what some think, will be a big loss as if you go back and look at the Brumbies' wins this year he was an integral part in those victories............

Mogg, at his best, could've been something special but there's no denying that over the past two seasons his overall form had dropped off............

It looks to be the best roster they've had since 2013, and the development of some of the fringe forwards such as Ala'alatoa, Smiler, Enever etc. and the addition of experienced players like Andrew Smith and Anae will add good depth to the squad.

White is a huge loss and whilst Mogg had his good games and his bad games - combined with White it will have a huge tactical shift.

We lose both players with big boots who often got us out of a lot pressure. This was even notable when Mogg was injured and Coleman was playing fullback.

With both White and Mogg gone we won't have the advantage of the big clearance any more.

Other then that, I think everything else is looking very solid.

This maybe just as important to who is signed but improving those on the books. The example that stood out loudly was in the Vikings v Stars match. We saw the newly renovated outside centre in Ah Wong ready to step in when Kudriani is unavailable. Iona was the same a fit at 10/12 and Anae mentioned as starting on his journey to hooker. This reminds me of John Uligia but he became a better hooker with the Waratahs. Whilst at the Stars used Tilse at Lock.
