A real interesting by-line that is emerging is the attitude of the Canberra public to the on-going turmoil; and it could be a very public warning for the Brumbies board including club presidents.

The tide of change, improvement and growth in support Jones has lead has clearly changed:

Ticket sales have been extremely low in the build up to their clash against the Waikato Chiefs at Canberra Stadium on Saturday night, despite the Brumbies winning four of their five games this year.

The off-field war behind the scenes has been confusing for fans as they watch club powerbrokers fight each other.


My concern is if Jones is ousted ACT Rugby (Brumbies) will be stuck with the old regime that has failed year after year to manage ACT Rugby & Brumbies finances and future. With a board that is ruling the roost, its unlikely the Brumbies will be able to attract the type of CEO that can produce the same results as Jones, uninhibited, unencumbered and uncontrolled by the board.

The Canberra clubs have called an EGM of the Brumbies board to get it explained why they stood Michael Jones down etc.

Can someone from Brumbieland explain Joe Roff is caught up in all this? It appears that Jones sent Roff an email that somehow got leaked to the Uni. What's Roff's role with the Brumbies?

Unless something has changed, Roff is the head of the University of Canberra Union and is a Board Member of the Brumbies.

Current CEO of UC union and chairman of Canberra Vikings NRC team.

Been touted as Brumbies CEO before, and obviously involved closely with the university

Timing of this meeting intentionally planned to be after the court ruling.

4 of the 7 clubs have called for the "please explain meeting".

They could charge $1000 a head to sit in on that meeting. "Theatrette" sounds a bit small though.

Pulver and the ARU are in the middle of it. But his track record on handling difficult situations is to lose phone texts - (Beale and Paxston) and Wallaby coaches rather than manage a situation.
Yeah he doesn't want to be in the middle of it - his second in charge, Rob Clarke, was a Brumbies CEO back in the day and we know how he likes to look after his old school mates.

"A group of Brumbies’ 20-year members, backed by some of the presidents of the Canberra clubs, are about to launch a civil action in the Federal Court aimed at recovering some of the “tens of millions of dollars” missing from ACT Rugby’s coffers"


A lot of very interesting information in this one!

"Jones, though he was not at the club at the time, sought explanations about the deal when he joined the club in 2015 and when nothing plausible was forthcoming he went to ARU chief executive Bill Pulver who immediately recommended the matter be investigated by Phil Thomson of the code’s Integrity Unit.
Thomson, a former federal policeman, quickly realised that the matter was too complex for his unit to investigate, at which point KPMG were called in. KPMG recommended it be taken to the AFP, which it was, first informally and then formally — and all with the Brumbies board’s approval. Yet it has been Jones alone who has become a lightning rod for the storm that has blown up around the issue, with the Brumbies directors effectively now wanting to be rid of him and the problem."
