Why do Brumbies supporters hate Phibbs so much, I think he is pretty good myself, he is a good all round 9 to me, solid defence, nice distributor and good calm leader

I’m a fan…

White looked really good for the U20's I rate him over Phibbs but I suppose a year under their wing won't do him any harm

6. Elsom 7.Colby F 8. Hoiles

Salvi was good for Bath but he is a penalty machine and needs to settle down a bit

Agreed I’d like to see C Finger there but I think Salvi will be given the start, with Finger on the bench to cover 6/7

is it generally accepted down in brumbies land that Colby is the better 7 (over hooper) ? I haven't seen enough of either of them to have an opinion myself.

Over Hooper I'd say yes (I know Lee won't agree, but most others down here do), over Salvi 50/50... though Colby definitely played better than Salvi during the JID competition (both with Vikings)

Both Fainga'a and Hooper have had hard luck with injuries so 2011 might be the break out year for one of them

Jesse Parahi (Aus 7's) is one to look out for in the backrow too next season

Yep. Vikings no. 8 who was voted best player of the JiD this year... but, is he too small to be a no. 8 at a Super level?

I don't think so, he plays a similar game to Hoiles. Parahi: H- 189cm W- 105kg

Hoiles: H- 190cm W- 101kg
Brown: H- 189cm W- 106kg
Palu- H- 194cm W-120kg
Houston- H- 189cm W-114kg

The Brumbies need a quality loosehead... can't we trade Jerry with somebody? Please???!?!!

You Brumbies are a funny lot. Exactly how many minutes of game time has he been given? And how many of those were filling in at tight head?

It's reminiscent of Luke Burgess's time in the city-which-has-no-city. What was it; five seasons during which his playing time would hardly have summed to a full game?

Signed young in 2004 and was stuck behind Gregan up to 2007

I'd like to think Jerry Y will get a run with the longer competition next season. However, I have a feeling that come next year, we'll all be amazed how hard the coaches are pushing their players, devestated when much of our Wallaby first 15 drop like flies and furious that the coaches had refused to rotate their squads during the Super season.

Don't know that I've expressed an opinion on Hooper being better than Colby Finger - just harped on about that the younger guy shouldn't have been used in the S14 when he had a shoulder reconstruction not long before. Let's not go there again - but I think they are about the same. I expressed the opinion that I thought it was a shame that Salvi was coming back so Colby would have to go to the Rebels to get a gig, as Hooper had been given a contract already, but just after I wrote that Colby got one too.

Still think it's a bit of a shame because the young guys won't get as much time next year and they'd better better prepared physically by then. But Salvi would be the better bet being a young old pro now. After looking at him playing in England the Brumbies shouldn't play him anywhere but 7.

When has Jerry ever filled in at TH for the Brumbies?

And Burgess was always injured and playing behind gregan...

Sooo...

Oh thats who that guy is (jesse parahi), had seen him in aus schoolboy photos and not known who he was

by the way what was the opinion on Burgess when he was playing for the brumbies or did he literally get no game time to judge him on?

Salvi is definitely a 7 but he gives away alot of penalties, I wonder if his link play makes up for it.

His tackling could make up for it too. At one point in 2009/10 he was the leading tackler in the GP, but as you say, he was conceding a lot of penalties at the breakdown.

He was becoming a Waugh-type hard no. 7 in the GP but if he can't get up to speed with discipline in Super rugby, which will be already in its 2nd season using the law crackdown on releasing tackled players, he may not be the force he was oftentimes for Bath.

I am not a Brumbies fan but IMO he has one of the weakest passes of the Super rugby half-backs and he gets referees off-side with his constant chat (look at club rugby GF). For mine, I don't know why they retain him when he hasn't been able to lock down a starting spot in the last 3 years.

The Brumbies have signed a speed machine….

Fijian born winger called Henry Speight who has agreed to a two-year contract with the Brumbies.
He will move to the capital when he finishes his ITM Cup duties with Waikato in New Zealand. Waikato will play Canterbury in the ITM Cup final this weekend. Speight score a solid try last weekend against Auckland and looks strong and fast.

Speight has been playing with Waikato for the past two seasons and his power and speed convinced the Brumbies the 22-year-old would be an asset in Canberra.

Brumbies coach Andy Friend wants to add more attacking potency to his back line for next year's Super Rugby season.
And Speight looms as the perfect man to increase the team's flair.

The Fijian-born flyer was recruited by Waikato after he starred for Fiji at the under-19 world championships.
But with the Waikato Chiefs boasting outstanding outside backs - including Mils Muliaina and Sitiveni Sivivatu - it is believed Speight saw a better pathway to the top level with the Brumbies…. He be right about that! Welcome Henry……

I could very much see him being Roodt all over again. Then again, he is coming into the Brumbies fold with better credentials.

The Answer to Brumbies no7 is playing for Waikato in the ITM Cup

The answer to the debate about who should play 7 for the Brumbies with no George Smith around is playing for Waikato in the ITM Cup. Jack Lam is in tremendous form and is in his 3rd Year now playing in one of the toughest domestic competitions in the world. Why would you not look at him to return home, schooled at St Edmunds, played club for the Queanbeyan Whites, Aust Schoolboys, U19s. His brother also playing for Randwick, why wouldnt the Brumbies look at the both Jack and Seilala Lam to join the Brumbies ranks...why look elsewhere...is Hooper really better than the Lam Brothers, or Faigaa for that matter....

I wonder who this is posting?

What credentials does Jack Lam have? Colby Fainga'a has been class in the Aus U20's and has been a standout in the JiD Cup and already has S14 experience... Hooper is already another young talent with S14 talent... and Salvi is a quality player who just happens to be in a position where there has been world-class players in front of him (Smith, Pocock, Waugh)...
