Why is it that the least shit commentators in any sport are impartial?

Odd statement. Doesn't align with my experience.

Dave, I'm not wound up about it it just seems strange to me to expect a commentator to be engaged and interested in the sport, but not have a team.

Maybe the trick is to have commentators who like the sport (played it, worked in it, etc) and have a team, but don't commentate on that specific team.

A good commentator is not biased.

Who owns the rights to the games?

I always assumed that Foxtel would have owned the rights to the games and would not release them to opposition.

Great news though, hope they add more to the catalogue

Rugby Australia own the rights and sell them to the highest bidder. When the broadcast provider changes the new one gets access to the back catalog. Would be ridiculous if Fox owned games they wouldn't show. It's the reason that Fox League can show all the old ABC and Channel 9 games.

Considering the number of Aussies playing in Japan it makes a lot of sense that they'd broadcast it here. Also, they are pretty keen for content considering the European leagues seem to be locked up until the end of the year.

I'm no expert but broadcasters typically purchase a licence to use/broadcast content from actual content owners, right? It'd be wild if RA sold actual ownership rights.

It seems like there has never been any desire to push the Top League outside of Japan (until now).

There were never any broadcasts, it's very difficult to find information not in Japanese and until Rich Freeman started tweeting about it in English, was incredibly difficult to find out current information regarding it.

I was once trying to purchase some merch for one of the teams and determined that it was basically impossible, even if you lived in Japan. Essentially you could only buy merch at the ground.

No painted on field sponsorship, be interested to see if they get it right when they superimpose, other broadcasters have got it really wrong in the past
