On form White has been the best Australian 9 so far this year....

He was poor tonight and against the Tahs, but let's not choose to forget the other half a dozen games he performed strongly in....

If we only had 2 halfbacks going to the RWC it would be Phipps and White with daylight third....

White needs to take hold of his mental state, and learn to handle shitty refereeing better..... because when he gets into a negative mindset he falls apart.....

I agree with your summation up to the point where you say that its Phipps and White with daylight third. Given your last para, its Phipps and daylight. Third is a real dogfight between White, Genia, Stirzacker, McKibbin and Frisbee. The first one of those who gets their shit together will be the backup. White absolutely has to learn to play without letting his negative mindset destroy what he does. Larkham needs to tell him to stop! using his mouth to "help" the referee and start using it to direct his players.

Brumbies unlucky tonight. A couple of concerning injuries as well. I'm finding it harder and harder to listen to the new Zealand comentry team. Really bias.

Hawko, I'll have to disagree with you there because I don't think Phipps has been playing good enough to have daylight in between him and anyone else..........

However, he still deserves to retain the Wallaby 9 jersey, but with White's form he should rightfully be Phipps' backup............

Genia has just been poor, and will only make the RWC by the necessity of requiring 3 halfbacks (Graham isn't the cause of all of his issues).......... and Stirzaker has yet to do enough to be in contention.............

The other two guys aren't even on the radar as yet.

I wonder if Larkham had a chat to Lees at HT? The only explanation to the lopsided penalty count to the Brumbies in the 2nd half

Or the other likely explanation was Larkham, Lees and Kirwan met pre-game and agreed they would make it competitive, but the Blues would win nonetheless.

White missed the kick at the end there on orders from Larkham - who netted a hefty sum for betting against his team.

^^^^^^^^^^ NZ teams are 12/19 as Super Rugby champs c.f. Aus 4 & SA 3 but we're each 1/4 as RWC winners over the same period. Put another way, Super Rugby success is no guarantee of RWC success & vice-versa.

1999 Super Rugby champs Crusaders (NZ) RWC winners Australia
2003 Super Rugby Blues (NZ) RWC England
2007 Super Rugby Bulls (SA) RWC South Africa
2011 Super Rugby Reds (Aus) RWC New Zealand

So just the one Super Rugby + RWC double.

Another "interesting" stat: as of last night NZ teams are 22/36 (61%) in Super Rugby 2015 c.f. SA 18/37 (49%) & Aus 14/35 (40%). Haven't done the inter-conf numbers.

Well, the second worst Aussie team beat the second best Aussie team, but also lost to the worst Aussie team.......... sooooooooo.........

But to give the Blues some credit, their 12 point loss to the Tahs was their biggest defeat of the year...........

All of their losses (except for that match and the Stormers) have been by within 7 points, which include 2 games against the Chiefs and the 'Canes......... they were due for the win and this also had to be their first game of the year at Eden Park............

A more worrying statistic is that 3 Aussie teams sit in the bottom 5.

As I said in earlier post I thought both 9s were poor last night, but to be fair to White, maybe he was just having an off night, as I do tend to think he better than that. I was why he took so long to pick ball up at back of rucks, and at one driving maul he actually had his hands on the ball that the last man in maul was holding, then let it go, sure someone had to be offside or something in that case. But as I said I do think White is a lot better player then he showed last night.

I did have one extra good chuckle during game where commentators thought Pocock had not released player, and on replay they happily admitted he had. Shows how well Pocock was playing, doing things so well it looks at times like he must be cheating, but he wasn't. Reminds me a lot of a certain GOAT!! But I not expecting many on here to admit to that of course:D

And WOB, I know the NZ teams are showing good win stats etc, will change a lot over next while as they play each other. All gets a little harder then I think;)

The problem is for all of them, they all look good behind a set of pigs going forward, the moments when the Reds were going forward, Genea looks great as well

Against the Tahs & Blues White wasn't behind that dominant pack and he looked average. He gets grumpy and chippy, instead of working harder to get to the ruck quicker, driving his forwards and clearing the ball he starts whinging at the assistant refs and ref - and enters the spiral of death

IN fact winning the Super Rugby has been the kiss of death on all but one occasion.

I really think there might be an explanation for penalty turn-arounds in the second half of matches. Not saying this happened last night, but I can imagine a situation at half time where a person who is allowed to talk with the ref (say an AR) points out a lop sided penalty count and suggests that one or two (or more) might have gone the wrong way (eg at scrum time on the far side from the ref) and the ref makes a conscious or sub-conscious decision to even things up in the second half. Probably nothing more than a "human" response.

^^^Imagine if that happened in a RWC semi final, or in a close loss by the Wallabies in the Bledisloe.

I reckon there would be some who would expect Bob Dwyer write-ups on the front page, calls for royal commissions and all sorts of out-rage here if this exact scenario happened against the Wallabies in RWC semi or final or a Bledisloe decider or last year's Super Rugby final.

The Blues discipline went out the window in the 2nd half.
That is a more likely explanation than the AR telling the Ref of the lopsided penalty count.
