I have noticed that big Cliffy Palu is still listed for the RWC squad.

In light of our first game against Italy only ten days away and his noted absence from the Barbarians team; does anyone know how his rehabilitation is going?

Will he be ready for Italy?

Why would he need to be ready for Italy?

I'm sure he'll get some time against the likes of USA or Russia before he's even considered for the 22.

I agree with you Slim, Italy probably wasnt a good example. I also agree with you Tig's that a mouthwatering Samo/Palu combo would be a delight.

Im more interested if anyone has heard about his progress from injury... They really seem to be cutting it fine with him.

Agreed.

I think we should have possibly chosen someone else who has played a bit of footy. But then again we seem to have a good amount of cattle in the back row? Maybe he is super fit and they are keeping him underwraps?

I think learns said in the oz v kiwi match last week that he had spoken to him and he was having a game this weekend. I guess in Sydney.

Phipps is the only one from the RWC squad playing club footy this weekend.

Palu is still deemed injured to be playing for the marlins.

Im a little worried about the big guy. He is going into the World Cup with almost no game time in two years

Here's what's going on behind the scenes with Big Cliffy:

Deans said a couple of weeks ago that game time was not necessary and they had other ways to manage his comeback. Also Barney that was great.

He is training with the squad according to pictures I've seen. Looks like contact too. Probably a week away from playing?

Unless he gets a shot vs Ireland off the bench or there is an injury, I can't see how he can be picked for the knockout games. It isn't like a storming performance vs USA or Russia is going to convince anyone of form?

Cliffy, Slipper, Mitchell, Barnes, Burgess & TPN all need to get game time against Italy & Ireland & then play either 60-80 minutes against the USA & Russia.

Best result for the the Wallabies is to "hopefully" have the games against Italy & Ireland wrapped up by the 60 - 65 minute mark so these blokes get a good run & then let them all start against the USA & the we should really have our best team play against Russia as I always prefer the team has a run before the knockout stages.

At the John Eales Medal, he said should be available for selection for the first pool match against Italy. After his long lay off, probably start from the bench for one or two of the pool matches.

has anyone been down to the training sessions to confirm he is training and doing contact work? or is that just a rumour?

Cliffy's selection in the Wallabies squad was flawed because he always takes a long time to come back from injuries.

The only thing in his favour (in a weird way) is that the injury was a cracked shoulder blade (IIRR); so he should have a lot of kilometres on the board. Provided he can contact opponents with his normal brutishness when he gets onto the park his turnaround circle could be smaller than usual.

Otherwise, with the success of Samo at 8, not only running with the pill, but also picking it up from the base of the scrum (and sometimes in adversity), plus McCalman playing well off the bench, we could have got away with not picking him.

Maybe.

Let's hope that yours truly has cyber egg running down his face - and the sooner the better.

Cliffy definitely had a broken shoulder blade. That should have been well and truly healed by now though.

I believe he had an arthroscopy on his knee during that time and that is what he is coming back from now.
