What are the QRU doing that is so incredibly bad? It must go beyond just bad management into sexually abusing the players with farm animals or something.

What are the QRU doing that is so incredibly good? Why are we losing players? Why have we lost this team of established Super players all within the last 5 years!?

15 Drew Mitchell
14 Wendell Sailor
13 Junior Pelesasa
12 Berrick Barnes
11 Clinton Shifcofske
10 Julian Huxley
9 Josh Valentine
8 Daniel Heenan
7 Hugh McMeniman
6 Mitchell Chapman
5 Nathan Sharpe
4 Rudi Vedelago
3 Rodney Blake
2 Stephen Moore
1 Tom Court

It can't be all because they are all selfish players. It can't be all because the ARU are dicking us. There's got to be a fair bit wrong with QLD Rugby.

You are spot on there Noddy. There is something rotten going on.

As for the transfer systems etc where are all the "free market" adherents? Won't the invisible hand of the market rectify everything?

Sad day for Queensland but time to move on. It's a professional game and that's life in the fast lane. I'm fairly sanguine about it. Looking forward to the development of Ben Tapuai and Jonno Lance. As some will know I've never been a big fan of Cooper but now's the time to see whether he's made of the right stuff or not. I suspect he's not but I'm prepared to give him another chance in these circumstances.

Turunui was playing his best rugby prior to the injury and I reckon Lucas is a fairly handy five eighth as well. We'll just have to hope that Digby is staying. I think a Turinui/Digby combo in midfield (ball player/distributor and ball runner/stepper) wouldn't be too bad an option. Morahan's a find as well - I saw his younger brother play last weekend - he's a goer too.

We'll just have to hope that the brains trust can come up with a few signings of note. I'm not overly confident but gee, where there's life there's hope..... Damn shame, mind.

Barnes must be desperate if he thinks playing in the backs for NSW will improve his game.

Playing behind a forward pack that turns up for more than 4 games a year will probably help him with injuries...

How many now see the need for a draft and transfer system. It is clear that the various s14 franchises cannot be trusted to 'not be greedy' and that they have little thought for the bigger picture of Aussie rugby.

The Tahs now have Hangers, Beale and Berrick competing for the 10 jumper with Beale, Berrick and Supaglue vying for inside-centre while Turner and Sunsilk have a kickoff for fullback. Where does Rob Horne fit in? And where do the Tahs play Digby? In the meantime the Brumbies have Giteau, Lealiifano and To'ouma trying out for five-eighth. All the while the Reds need a five-eighth and a fullback and the Force need inside backs and props. I'm of the opinion there are plenty of quality Australian rugby players to equip four Super sides, sensibly distributed.

Our uniquely unbalanced rugby landscape (weak in Perth and Melbourne, fucked administration in Queensland) allied with a desire to grow the game results in some unusual unnatural pressures, such as mentioned above. If it's not time for a draft now it never will be. Especially with Melbourne coming on board in the near future.

As an admirer of Barnes, I'm happy to see him coming to the Tahs, from a purely self-interested point of view.
BUT, as an Aussie rugby fan first and foremost, I am dismayed that one of Qld's best should feel that such a move for 1 year is in any way the good option. I think this is a retrograde step for Aus rugby - as FOS says, Aus rugby is strong when Qld rugby is strong (much as I wish it wasn't necessarily so).
Qld rugby should give itself a huge uppercut.

and if you take another step back you will realise this will not only damage the game in qld but nationally as well

rugby is declining in qld, this is last thing it needed

They play Horne at 13 and Digby in the vacant back three slot, obviously.

i'm neither here nor there about this.
i'm more interested in how QLD handle this.
part of the problem was them putting all there hopes on Barnes. he didn't need that so he left for a better home.
part of me is thinkng this is good for QLD.
no team should be focused around one player. they can change that now.

as for this talk of draft. fuck off.
wins in rugby don't just come on the field they come off as well.
if you can't get good players to your team. It's your problem.
if a player would rather pay off the bench (like salvi) more the brumbies or nsw then play first grade for QLD that's QLDS problem. they shouldn't be helped because teir off the field people can't do their job.

the brumbies were formed by the so called "losers" or "cast aways" from nsw. history will tell you what happen.
good for barnes. it's better of Australian rugby.

Barnes ? Did we really need a Shaun Berne replacement ?

Bad luck to the bananabenders but I think Barnes will add some value to our team. We've been perpetually frigging around with our flyhalf and inside centre positions over the years.

I don't for a second blame Berrick. He goes where he is best served. I can see why the Tahs would be more attractive than the Reds.

Noddy,

I seem to recall you had a different view when Moore left.

Moore, Horwill and Barnes were the players we were meant to be rebuilding our team around. Now we only have one left.

yeah that's a fair point. To be honest I can't remember being as vehement against Moore because I understand that he had issues with Mark Bell, but I guess my arguing was that the Reds had just started a seemingly promising upturn. Mooney's first year and we had showed some promise and Moore had only just established himself in the Wallabies. So I couldn't see the point really. The same, even worse, applies to Mitchell and Sharpe.

But two years on and there seems to have been no real up turn. And things don't seem to be improving. I can understand the frustrations for someone who puts such high expectations on himself when he looks around him during the game and sees team mates clearly not putting in. And he's sees an administration not on the ball (although from the sound of it, the NSWRU aren't nirvana in that sense).

I am still devastated by it. Perhaps all the moves of the various players have now just dulled my senses. This is the lowest I have felt, from a Reds perspective, in a very long time. At least in season's past I have had some glimmer of hope. At this point, I have none of that at all.

Are there any players in the world you like?
I'd say probably 7 Palus, 7 Moores and Gavin De Bartolo at 15, with some extra Moores and Palus on the bench.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The light at the end of the tunnel has been bricked up.

It may have helped if the Reds had more in place, like a forwards coach etc and a commitment to play more sensible, winning rugby.
