Grace Grace at Ballymore today visiting the Australian Womens 7s team who are training there in the lead-up to the Olympics..

Wonder whether we will see the $$ to fund the Eastern Stand redevelopment that includes the Aussie Womens 7s relocating..QLD have an election coming up and the Federal Government has thrown a bit of cash around recently towards Netball Australia, Womens Football and $40million for Leichhardt.

While the QLD Labor government is trying to buy an election rugby should put their hand out.

The masterplan put forward 2 options for the main stand upgrade, one was $100million, the other $40million.

The knockdown and rebuild of McLean Stand at Ballymore was $31million, Brookvale's new stand was $36million.
I think $40million is a decent chunk for these suburban grounds like Leichhardt/Ballymore/Brookvale if they're done right.

FWIW, under this grant Leichhardt will get a new Northern Stand, upgraded bowl and new seating throughout ft. horrific colour palette
Masterplan for Leichhardt Oval featuring a new northern grandstand

I am sure it will be changed to some type of dot painting from the local community, I doubt that is the final design

So there was a press release today… got my hopes up. 7s program to relocate to ballymore. Open up article and it’s contingent on the funding of new high performance building being financed.

don’t understand why Daniel Herbert is doing this kind of announcement in front of public/media via press release… why not reach out to the govt stakeholders and get your ducks in a row first and deliver the news once it’s approved

Timing of this press release following Grace Grace visit to Aussie 7's at Ballymore can't be coincidental.
I'd say any release like this was done in consultation with the govt stakeholders who've asked them to make it, and/or to push it through public channels to garner up a bit more support.

Well, it probably doesn't help that this year's state election will have a lot of punters thinking of the the shit show Miles has caused with his veto of both the Gabba and Vic Park plans.

So, I'd imagine the current government is a little gun shy being out in front of a stadium potentially announcing more funding as the whole premise of the QSAC idea is to save us money in a "cost of living crisis".

That’s why it’s a new high performance training precinct for the Aussie Women’s 7s Olympic teams ;), grandstand aspect is just a coincidence.

Speaking of which, the Aussie 7's doing an open session on Saturday at 10:20 if you want to head down.

I love Ballymore - but I'd 100% support a full enclosed 20,000 seat stadium like the one pictured at perry park if push came to shove. Perry Park's location and proximity to public transport/ other public spaces is unrivalled.

Agree we need stadiums like this in a growing city like Brisbane but QRU should be opposed to developing Perry Park given that if Ballymore were to be developed into a similar type of ground with about 10-20k seating they would remain the owners and receive the benefits. Ballymore would be cheaper, less disruptive to construct and the revenue would prop up professional rugby in the state for decades.

FQ suggested that other lower-level professional teams, such as rugby’s Queensland Reds, could also use Perry Park
Why'd they have to do us dirty like that

Taking off my rugby hat, Perry Park is a far more suitable location for a stadium of this type

To me this sounds more like a response by FA to the recent Ballymore funding chat in the media than a genuine chance. The following probably says all you need to know about the article:
The stadium would host the Brisbane Roar men’s and women’s A-Leagues teams, any potential National Second Tier clubs, along with community soccer. FQ suggested other lower-drawing professional teams, such as rugby’s Queensland Reds, could also use Perry Park.

$200million > $50million

Football QLD and Football Australia have never been on the same page or been able to coordinate any kind of strategic plan with the government; they'll struggle.

Construction is an interesting point - other than the obvious fact ballymore has one complete grandstand already making the rest of the redev cheaper, I don't understand this enough to comment. And sure - the QRU could clip the ticket of every event held at Ballymore so I agree that they would never support a Perry Park upgrade.

Ballymore is relatively impossible to get to compared to Perry Park which is across the road from a major interconnected train station. Purely from an accessibility perspective on Match Day - Perry Park is better (assuming all else is equal).

Porque no los dos?

Agree accessibility at Perry Park would be much better. However realistically, a stadium like the one they've proposed would be close to $ 250 million with today's construction costs; Ballymore Eastern Stand is probably around $50 million.

So there's a $ 200 million difference in costs, which is the biggest issue for the government; if it's not essential for the Olympics, it doesn't have support from the other codes, then govt wont see much value in supporting it.

Some will argue that $200million can fund a lot of shuttle busses on matchday
