This might have been quoted elsewhere, but interesting reading:

The numbers tell the story. Research commissioned last year by bank HSBC, which sponsors the men's and women's sevens world series, predicted that by 2026, 40 per cent of rugby's global playing population would be female. A staggering prediction, considering the sport's stuffily masculine image, but one based on recent participation growth, fuelled by the sport's Olympic inclusion. The number of female players rose from 200,000 to 1.7 million between 2013 and 2016, according to World Rugby figures. If sevens maintains its Olympic status, the HSBC-commissioned research suggests participation, including men, could blow out to 15 million worldwide, with four in every 10 players playing – nay, slaying – footy like girls.
