That gold medal is worth heaps to the game as a whole. I hope our marketing intern is working up our next campaign right now.

While not great for Australia broadly, it's also helped that the Hockeyroos, Opals and Waterpolo team (Stingrays?) will all return empty handed (and men's teams too), giving them even more media focus.

It's just manna from heaven, and couldn't have worked out much better.

It may even lead to some more money coming from the government. The new model apparently skews funding very heavily to those sports that have the best chance of gold and medals in general. Would be great if the ARU can get some assistance.

However, this funding process has caused some angst with athletes after another disappointing swim meet and swimming in general getting a lot of money. Personally I think the media have been very tough on a few people that didn't do so well and it was a much better meet than London. Reasons for under performance between the two games don't seem related.

Cheers. Looks like a solid set up. Something that could be replicated quite easily right across the country. I might write something up using it as the template and post it on The Roar. That and my review of the inaugural PRO Rugby season.

unless you want to do it for this site...

Miami High State Shool(Gold Coast) now has Rugby 7's as a subject which students can elect, it's in partnership with the QRU, teaches them the rules, tactics etc of 7's and some coaching accreditation.

Maybe best if you do an article here and then a summary on the Roar that links to your article here.

I'd really like to see your review of the US PRO Rugby initial season and anything you know about the wash up of it - plans for the future etc.

I read that they are saying Nate Ebner, the NFL player who was loaned to the US 7s team (he had a rugby background and his NFL team in their offseason agreed to let him play in the Olympics with a good build up as part of his preseason NFL training) has been a big profile boost for rugby and 7s in the US which is good. I thought that the USA women's team did really well - a draw with the Oz girls and a defeat by a solitary try by the NZ girls means they must have been tough opposition.

Miami High State Shool(Gold Coast) ......

Just 'cos it's on the GC there's no need to just assume the School is High in more ways than you'd usually expect :). Now if they can just get the kids off their surfboards & motorised skateboards, they could be onto something..............

Pretty sure any of the core group would be taking a significant pay cut to play in the women's AFL. They're offering salary's of 5-25k last I heard (25k for marquees). The women's sevens squad makes an average 55k and this is set to rise.

I guess the women's AFL is a pretty short comp so maybe girls on the fringes could play both sevens and AFL.

If you won first prize in a farting contest in Melbourne the AFL'd be on to you for the publicity. If there was any effort in the achievement they'd shove you in trade week.

AFL have shown intent in the past to pay overs to recruit marquee players from other codes to help promote teams though, I hope they don't, but won't be surprised if they do.

On another note Las Vegas is rumoured be joining as a leg for the HSBC Women's Sevens series for 2016-2016, on top of Sydney and Japan.
