An article I've written over at the Army: http://www.rebel-army.com/archives/1915

Obviously from a Victorian perspective, but it gives you a breakdown what the next few years has instore.

It seems Canberra got shafted, from the information available.

Really looking forward to Brisbane next year. Name a pub, and we shall sing!

Canberra has being getting shafted by the ARU for a long time...

Another Super Rugby title will make it all better...

Unfortunately it's the population and the lack of a decent size stadium I guess that doesn't help though.

Canberra didn't take its chances when they had it. They had the chance to get out and support the Fiji test and Demonstrate why they should be a regular test venue. The problem is they didn't.

Caxton, I have tried on numerous occasions to walk to the venue from other surrounding pubs and failed miserably. The Caxton is close and thankfully it's all downhill walking (or stumbling in my case), beer garden isn't half bad either.

The welsh test in Melbourne is confirmed at etihad. there is some question as to whether it will be the 1st or 2nd test though.

My sources tell me that melbourne is in line to get a B&I Lions test as well. again, question over which match.

I'm surprised the bledisloe deals were so long dated. it provides such little flexibility to reward melbourne in particular. Perth will presumably always be the 'secondary' city that gets the south african games when not in brisbane. But melbourne surely should be getting more exposure to tri nations rugby.
A 5 year deal would have allowed melbourne to grow its rugby base via games against the welsh, french, irish etc and then, once support is well and truely there, give us tri nations at least.

I'll say it again, the move to having games on the gold coast is great, but I am surprised Melbourne isn't getting more of a look at for the argentina games. don't forget in addition to the argentina match there is a scotland one off test on the gold coast.

We've had this discussion before, and this is absolute nonsense.

The Fiji test match was never going to bring in the crowds wherever it was held.

The year before against Italy it was near capacity crowd.

The ARU could've held more test matches in Canberra to capitalise during the Brumbies' reign but failed to do so.

Has the Scotland game moved from Newcastle to the Gold Coast?

Canberra at least get's international provincial level Rugby so there is a presence.

If a choice has to be made between Melbourne and Canberra, i am all for Melbourne.

Oh yeah, no doubt about that.

My gripe is that the ARU really missed an opportunity to hold smaller test matches in Canberra (Canberra should of had the PI match in 2004 instead of Adelaide), and waited until the game's popularity had gone down everywhere to hold what was always going to be a fizzer of a test and then come out with this arrogant stance of "Oh well, you had your chance. Not good enough..." In the meantime ignoring that the Italy test the year prior was successful, and the Fiji game would not have received much better in Sydney in a stadium twice the size.

Obviously you have to hold the bigger tests in the bigger cities, but the idea that Canberra, a rugby town that has housed our most successful Australian team, doesn't deserve anything again is quite frankly bullshit.

I don't blame the ARU for having that stance. It was a good idea to take that game to Adelaide. The players really got involved with the local Rugby community and it was good. To be fair to the other cities, you are half way between the two, and if there is whinging about having to travel you have been given plenty of notice to attend a test match.

Get your Brumbies back to being successful and i bet that a test match come's Canberra's way.

I agree 100% that Canberra should of got it's opportunity earlier than it did. I just take issue to the when a city gets a test they don't get behind it. It is nothing personal to Canberra I can assure you as I hold the view to all cities in the same situation.

I now one test that could be added to the Schedule could be Samoa on a yearly basis. Call it simplistic but we need more tests to share around and they need more competition with the tier one sides. Sounds like a win win to me.

The problem is that they didn't get any when they were successful, and getting regular large crowds.

The catch with 2004 is in the wake of the 2003 RWC, there wore a number of cities worthy of another test due to the way they turned out in support of the cup. Adelaide, Townsville, Gosford and Canberra were all worthy candidates for that PI game. I don't begrudge Adelaide getting the game but I do understand the frustration the other cities must have felt. I don't this the reasonable proximaty Canberra is to Sydney helps their cause. I am not saying it is right but just saying it is a potentrial factor.

The four bigger cities will be getting plenty of action already locked in for the expanded Four Nations competition, plus they'll be favoured for inbound tour from the bigger Six Nations countries.

Hopefully Canberra would have to be first choice for any tours from the smaller nations (and this includes Italy).

The ARU should also follow SANZAR'S lead and hold these winter matches in the afternoon.

Clearly the QLD government splashed some cash, considering they have 3 tests some years, which I think is quite unfair. Cue the "we're Super Rugby champions" comment.
