It's about Australian crowds.

The 5 Australian teams had either 8 or 9 home games last year totalling 43 and the Reds hosted two finals bringing the total to 45.

Of much interest in terms of crowd figures and trends relating thereto will be those for the Tahs v Force game this weekend. IIRC, other than the last game v Brumbies @ ANZ in the 2011 S15 season, the Tahs numbers were trending down to a (gate income and sponsorship) danger zone of around 13,000 at SFS. Here's hoping that the Tahs gutsy and IMO more fluid and dynamic game style this year will give these a boost, subject to good marketing by the NSWRU.

I would think the QRU will be delighted with the Reds' opening home numbers of around 33,000 per game.

Where is there a definitive attendance record for Super 15 Games Comp wide (not just Australia)?

Probably one of the finals at Loftus or Lang Park... even though the Olympic Stadium in Sydney and Joburg's Ellis Park are bigger capacity.

That's funny, I interpreted that question as where is there a definitive log of all attendances for S15 games... Eye of the beholder eh?

NSW pulled 14'000 on the weekend against the Force...

Now i know the Force dont exactly have big drawcard players but thats a incredibly poor effort for NSW to draw such a low crowd against a team from Australia..

After the Tah's performance, it would be a surprise if a number of those 14,000 wished they hadn't shown up either

A city the size of Sydney, one Rugby team to support and 14,000 people show up. What is it with Sydney-siders getting to live footy matches? Even the rollout to League is abysmal.

I thought league attendance was up Karl? I wouldn't call Sydney a one team town.

Last look league attendance was up about 4k. With over 17.5k attending on average, that's about 88k per week going to the League. Add the Swans pulling 25k+ most weeks, we're well over 100k. That's 100k minimum people attending codes other than rugby every week. That's why NSW Rugby needs to look hard at whether what it offers - as an overall package - is as attractive as those others. If it isn't, there are too many alternatives.

I'm lucky to be in a position (and like them enough) that I have both Tahs and Swans memberships at the moment. But I bloody well know which one gives me better value - and it ain't the Tahs one.

it cant be easy being a sydneysider and non-league supporter. the swans play the most boring brand of footy around and it is vibrant an exciting compared to the Tahs.....

I reckon the Tahs would love to have the crowds and atmosphere of a Swans SCG home game. The Swans may not the be the best team in the AFL, but the fans have little reason to doubt that they are giving it their all each match.

Sad to say, but a day/night out at the Swans would be more enjoyable for the casual sports fan in Sydney.

The Tahs desperately need afternoon footy but I can imagine it's hard to get these games considering how many tenants the SFS (won't ever call it Allianz) has. I don't go to night games, I usually have something better on and it's tough going along with mates as they usually have something on as well. I will be going to the afternoon games and I know a lot of other people feel the same way. I've barely ever seen the Swans play at night and the night NRL games are usually the Broncos or interstate games.

Interesting qwerty. I would argue that it's NSW Rugby's job to make going to the rugby the something better that you've got on!

Swans night and day crowds tend to be very similar. Perhaps it's what Badger said:
The Swans may not the be the best team in the AFL, but the fans have little reason to doubt that they are giving it their all each match.
But I also think that the Swans a) pump dollars and ideas in to their marketing b) pay very careful attention to their members and member offerings, and listen carefully to what members say then act on it c) offer a relatively 'family friendly' environment and d) offer good value for money both in $$ spent, and in $$ per hour. A cynic could also argue e) the Swans have (for the most part) the support - administratively and financially - of their peak body, the AFL, and the Tahs not so much.
