Up the Guts

Not sure I follow - so if you are injured and can't complete the program at Riverview - say the final when NSW 2 d NSW 1 - you should
be selected over the top of those who did play? There are, possibly, a very small no. of absolute stand out players who could do this, but the vast majority would surely have to play out the tournament to be selected?
I'm not sure what you're not following? Obviously if two players are on the same level and one doesn't compete in a final game it's more likely the player who competes will be selected. However, I watched the majority of games at Riverview and, aside from Luke Rixon, Mohi was the form winger of the tournament, especially being the leading try scorer behind a NSW I pack that weren't performing as well as expected. Indeed, many onlookers and GAGR pundits had him as one of the few from NSW I definitively pencilled into AUS Schools.
The reason, therefore, that I compared Reilly to Mohi was simply to illustrate that it's not an uncommon phenomenon in the world of schoolboy rugby that a player is denied selection because of an untimely injury/illness that rules them out of a trial game even though past performance would indicate they are more than capable of playing in a blue, gold or whatever colour representative jersey it may be.
