Pretty sure parent funded - with liberal use of fund raiser events.
A hunch they left after the HSC - first phase might know.

I'm pretty sure that the UK tour took place over the Christmas break.

I have a copy of the book "Ella, Ella, Ella"somewhere, bought in the early 80's, which had a lot of coverage of the tour and the boys on it which I found interesting at the time.

I also went to an exhibition match at Ballymore in 1978 between the 1977 Australian Schools team ("The Invincibles") and the Queensland U19's, it was pretty heavily promoted and thousands turned up to see the Ella brothers and other future stars go around.

I can't remember the score, but I can recall the Schoolboys backs turning on some great running rugby with the crowd going home happy.

The 2017 Aus Schoolboys Coach and Management will be the same as 2016 as there were given a 2 year tenure.

They were selecting a 2nd Aus selector - to partner Aus coach Langtry, along with Barbarians & Combined States coach and management today.

Quote from the current under 20 Australian Coach.
"“My (strength and conditioning) coach is from Bath and Leicester and they always had a policy of spread the net as wide as you can as long as you can, because if you do that you don’t miss out on the little bits of gold that might not be identified at 18, 19 or 20.”
If only we practiced this....

I would say Sione Tui (fullback/wing) from Vic would be close to guaranteed as the only Vic U18 player who played Vic U20s this year to my knowledge.

There's a couple of others who're outside chances.

It was fantastic to see Esei Haagana run on for the REBELS yesterday against the Lions.
His pathway : since 2016
  • Combined States team at Nationals
  • Aust School boys 2016
  • Signed byu REBELS to U/20's development contract.
  • Captained U/20's
  • Called up to train and then travelled with main squad.
  • debuted yesterday as backrower . . .and only just turned 19.
He looks fantastic. Lost lots of his excess backage and didnt look out of place with big boys. Hes the future generation of Australian rugby. Congratulations to you and your family. Also to the rugby fraternity who believed and invested in your talent and development. Dont stop learning. Stay hungry!!

And for the naysayers, he came from outside of the traditional Private School pathway. More and more kids are (as they should really).

Pretty meteoric rise for Ha'angana. Don't think he was rated all that high in the 16s age bracket but great to see him doing so well now.

Tall forwards often do make surprise meteoric rises in senior football. You can't coach height, and by all accounts he's an incredibly hard worker that's willing to do the 'shitters'.
