Scribes Roster

All the teams have been finalised. Some very proud parents, grandparents, friends and family members will be at Riverview to watch their young men play in the tournament.

Sadly not all of our fellow Gaggerlanders will be able to come to the Tournament to watch the games.

There is almost no other media coverage, and what coverage there is is generally rather limited and not all that timely. Many of those unable to come to Sydney (and plenty of the "locals" unable to get time off work) to watch the games rely on G&GR for tournament updates.

G&GR has set the standard for reporting on the National Schoolboy Championships, and we intend to maintain those standards this year.

The match reports do not write themselves, and photographs do not take themselves.

Uncle Lee and I need some volunteer assistance to help ensure that we can maintain the high quality blog articles on the tournament. There are only 16 games to cover, and it is a little too much for 1 good bloke and an enthusiastic sidekick to do all by themselves. Who is up for a challenge to assist?

These are the games we are looking for a match report or a photograph or two on for the blog.

What to do Next?
Send a "Conversation" to @Lee Grant and myself nominating the days you will be at Riverview, and on those days which games you prefer to cover.

Match Reporting Volunteers can either remain anonymous on the blog when the Daily Match Reports are published, or be identified by your forum avatar. Your choice.

I see that they still have Bill Freeman in there—and the wrong spellings for McDonnell and Finley prevail.

Fox Sports (Rugby HQ) just gave a plug for the championships next week (right at the close of the show).

Nothing to do with Tim Horan's boy, Alex, playing at flyhalf for Queensland 1.

I saw the name Horan in the Qld list and wondered if there was a connection... what a shadow to live in, poor kid !

Tim (panel member) did give a good smile when they mentioned the championships last night.

Young Alex was good for the Qld Red U/16s last year as was Angus Scott-Young in the second row.

Since we Sydneysiders get to see only the NSW fellows before the nationals, naturally enough, it's always good to see how U16s players from other places such as Alex and Angus have progressed in 12 months.

Talking about U16s from last year:

3. RJ SA’AGA, Melbourne Grammar School

"RJ", the "little" brother of Fereti S, was brought into the Vic U16 side last year after somebody was injured. He may not be the best THP in the upcoming tournament, but he is a character and will have the Vic cheering squad behind him again.

Strange how some of NSW Shadow made the combined side and some didn't. I would have thought all the shadow boys would have gone into the appropriate NSW Combined spots if possible. Are Combined the 4th pick behind Shadow or vice versa? Since there are no QLD shadows nominated, if a QLD Combined player drops out, is one of the NSW shadows substituted?

Hi all, yes you’ll see a fair few Qld U16s from last year in this year’s Opens. QI has 12 from 2013 U16 Red + Mafi, Fox, Fittock make up the starting 15. A further 6/7 from U16 Red/White are in QII or benches. I think Lee Grant’s “progressed” is the key word for U16 into Opens. We’ve had a few trials but no season so hard to define progress so far.

The Q boys have looked fairly sharp at training...a lot of pride at the week’s start when the Q gear came out. Training v competitive throughout. It seemed “Team” was priority fairly early on. Noticed some real intensity early on - maybe kids not so worried about how they “fit” & more concerned with the job execution at hand - just observation from the stands.

If I make it to Riverview I’ll be chuffed to watch one HHutchison play at #13. I wonder if the Qld coaches have heard of him!

Is Field One for Nationals the regular GPS field closer to the hill or the same field as for U16s last year?

There's a slight possibility since he played so many games for Australian Schoolboys last year as an U16 qualified player.

He's more than just a fast kid.

Watch what he does trying to deceive before he gets to a tackler to benefit the guy he passes to - and how he tackles big blokes front on.

Hugh Jarse is writing a preview of the tournament to be published before the game.

Who should we Sydneysiders be watching from WA, Vic, Qld and the ACT - and why?

it would be good to be able to put some of that info into the blog.
