A huge year for schoolboys, a recent post reminded me that Matt Sandell was still at school, with this years inbound tours, Fiji, South Africa, and NZ and with a schoolboy UK grand-slam at the end of the year, he would have to be in line to become our most capped schoolboy?? Last years Aust. School Championship programme has Chris Feauai-Sautia and Hugh Roach at 11 "caps" How many of the 5 games did Sandell play in NZ?? and is there is anybody else with the same chance ???

With a UK Grand Slam being a possible 4 Caps, and a further 3 possible Caps from inbound NZ, Saffa, and F1J1 tests, a player selected from 2013 Year 11 with a further 3 or 4 caps available in 2014 if they continue form, or a 2013 Year 12 Schoolboy returning with some caps already under their belt will give the 9/10/11 caps list a serious nudge.

Kellaway (Scots) may be one of those.

Agreed, but the definition of a schoolboy 'cap' still needs to be sorted? refering back to CTPE's linked site and the 2012 School Champ's programme the subtitle is 'ASRU international appearances'. It dosn't mention tests. 2012 there was 6 international games (my definition). Tonga, Fiji, Samo and NZ with Nandi and NZ Barbars as mid week games, are the last 2 included??
If not, then it makes the top cap earners even more impressive!!!

Dear Mods: For consistency purposes, can we rename this thread as "2013 Australian Schools & National Championships"

News from the Aust Schoolboys Rugby Union Web Site
http://www.austschools.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp

A BIG YEAR AHEAD IN 2013
The coming year features a “first ever” event for Schools Rugby and the touring highlight to the UK and Ireland.
The “first ever” event is the proposed visit to Australia by a South African Schoolboy Rugby Team, something that has been hoped for and planned many times before but which now looks like it will happen in 2013.
Their visit will occur with visits to Australia by New Zealand and Fiji Schools Teams.
Four Nations Tournament — thus— South Africa, New Zealand, Fiji and Australia will play a series of games in late September / early October.

UK /Ireland Tour
The four yearly Tour to the UK and Ireland will take place from mid-November to just before Christmas — with games against each of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales— a “grand slam” tour.
There will be eight or nine games in total, with “mid-week” type games against regional teams.

Eligibility
To be eligible for selection in any or all of the above events a player needs to be at school and turning 18 or younger in 2013. There is more information about eligibility on this web site.

Championships
The other major event in 2013 is the National State Championships— from which players for the Australian Team will be selected.
These Championships also include the interstate competition for both Division 1 and Division 2 States.

EDIT:

Home Tests 2013 – Reduced Programme
With the withdrawal of South Africa from their planned tour to Australia this year, the home test programme for the Australian Schoolboys Rugby team has been reduced to just two games.
These two games –with New Zealand and Fiji—will occur in a significantly reduced time frame—avoiding school term time for most states.
There will two games also for the Australia A team, also against NZ and Fiji.
The dates for these games are set out below.
The games for Australia and Australia A will also function as the final selection games for the Australian Schoolboys squad of 27 to tour the UK and Ireland, commencing in the second half of November.
This tour is one of the most anticipated events in schoolboy rugby—such tours have taken place every four years since 1973. This year will be a “grand slam” tour with Tests against England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Lolo fakaosilea Australian schoolboy of 2012 is back at having another crack at the green and gold! He has 4 tests up his sleeve from last year and if chosen this year, he could be in the running with browning and Sautia for most capped.

If he plays every Test in 2013, he'll finish with 12 caps, 1 ahead of Chris F-S and Hugh Roach. I'm including Irish U18 as a Test as the ASRFU has highlighted it on their website and in previous UK Tours it has had Test status even when Irish Schools have also been played.

Any other returning 2012 players on 4 caps? Kellaway didn't play Samoa and was on bench for NZ

Matt Sandell from Joeys has 3 caps, would be a front runner to captain the side aswell

Barring injury - Lolo must be a certainty. His 2 turnovers at the death won the test in NZ last year & Philpotts and Rapp have huge wraps on him.

Somebody told me yesterday that South Africa had withdrawn from the tour to Oz. I have no idea if it is true or not - anybody else hear that??
