Things to take away from the game GAGR's?

We continue to neglect the set piece.
One on one tackles were very poor at times - as they were in the Baa Baa's game.
Aversion to putting the ball into touch is costing us at all levels of the game at the moment - even Goddard's last kick from inside his 22 bounced into touch (deliberate I think) allowing them to take a quick throw which led to the pressure that resulted in their last try.

I don't want to sound like a 'what if', however picture a full strength Oz team and no NZ HPU involvement!
Nature of the game Newb.I am sure that there will be people saying "What about if <insert player> played. They didn't. Aust schools lost.

What do you mean by NZ HPU involvement? Was the Australian side plagued by injuries or something?

Our 3 best players were out - Henry Hutchinson, who was a starting centre/wing last year for Aus. schools; Alex Mafi, who was the starting hooker Aus. schools last year; and Angus Crichton who is probably the best back rower in Australia.

@Newbie. See post #472 about my Aunty and her lack of appendages.

I suspect there may be some discussion about the selection and preparation of this team, but the reality appeared to be that the NZL team was just better all round and thoroughly deserved their victory.

Pretty good game from both sides, congrats NZ. Just had a touch of class we didn't, especially in the backs.

Was a workmanlike effort from Aus, and it is pleasing the way they fought back in the second half. Punching it up around the ruck was working a charm.

Ultimately our kicking game let us down, and probably our composure in the last 10. Needed to keep the ball tight, instead flung it wide in our own half and paid the price.

Do you know if NZ were missing any of their stars, injured or unavailable?
The Reds did a number on them by pinching Taniela Topu.

Shades of AUS v SAF in the grown up game last week?

I know Shaun Stevenson who played wing for NZ against Fiji was injured. He is a pretty good player. Don't really follow school boy rugby so much so am not sure about others. Thomas and peter Umaga-Jensen who played for the wellington scots college side that won the national title made themselves unavailable for unknown reasons for the torny. They are both brilliant players. Lots of other good players to cover though.

Edit: The Umaga Jensen twins made themselves unavailable because of the importance of their school NCEA exams. Good on them.
