Congrats to 2014 Aussie Schoolboys Hugh Summerhayes and Ed Craig on winning a Volvo scholarship:

Details here: https://www.facebook.com/waratahs/p...1415685062./10152554949162144/?type=1&theater

and here: http://www.waratahs.com.au/Waratahs/News.aspx

If it's the same deal as last year, looks like it involves a relatively modest $2.5k toward educational expenses: http://austschools.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=203461. Nice gesture, but more about recognition of their leadership credentials, community spirit and academic application than a big payout.

Greetings all,
Currently in rugby hibernation in the Central West. (yes i know we had 41C on Friday)
Thought you might like an insight into two of this year's crop, Ned Yeomans and Nick Duffy, on their rugby careers and what their selection into the Aust Schools squad meant as told to the Dubbo Weekender.

Kinross and Joeys

Well done boys.

Went really well considering, in a format that would probably suit him. Playing again tonight in the Charity Shield. Will be interesting where he is deployed and his impact at this level in a full game.

Yeah he was training with the NSW U20s in December - not as a candidate, but as a way for the Tahs to get him gradually into their stable.

His dad told me that he turns 17 this month; if what he did in his U/15 and U/16 years is any guide he is going to be a considerable young player and hopefully a considerable older one. There is an old head on those young shoulders already.

Some young (and old) scrumhalves can pass well or kick well, or snipe well, or back up well, or run fast, and some can even kick goals.

He can do all of that and is no shrinking violet on defence either.

Watch this kid - he is a terrific player at school and I judge that he will be the same when he leaves it.

He comes from good stock. His dad is spoken about with reverence at the Mighty Two Blues.

Some suspicion that the dark code may be trying to get their claws into him.

He is playing SG Ball U18 mungoball with the Bunnies. A fair commute from Oakhill to South Sydney.

Bunnies are the same mob that obtained the signature of Angus Crichton (Aust A, NSW I, Scots) for their Car Makers Cup team.

That's a bit scary HJ, but this quote from the article gives hope:
“My biggest dream is to play for the Waratahs,” he said.
His plan is to make the switch to club rugby at the end of this year, and then push his claim for a Super Rugby contract.
