33 minutes. NZL #14 scores off the end of a simple set piece try.

AUS ran out of numbers in the backline (being 1 player short).

NZL #10 nails the kick from touchline. NZL 20 - AUS 9. 33 minutes gone.

Can't recall AUS getting into NZL 22 m line for a long time.

Oranges. NZL 20 - AUS 9.

It would be nice if the NZ commentators would be quiet about how JJH would be feeling about the red card. Poor bugger is probably feeling lower than a robbers dog at the moment.

Meat for Harry Goddard. Simple 89 move off a set piece scrum, Fox - Goddard - meat pie.

Harry lines up conversion from 10 metres in from touch and shows he is human as he misses to the left.

Tough tough tough to play almost all game with no 10, but our defense and consistent error rate in (generally good) attack worsened the disadvantage. Plus our forwards were nowhere near as intense and efficient as NZ's at the breakdown. Our boys showed terrific character though given 14 men, they held on well and fought hard at every turn, score could have been far worse.

Plenty for Coach Philpotts to work on over the next couple of days.

If that is the NZ B team, it may be a rather torrid affair on Saturday against the best that they have over there.

The team improved (particularly in the piggies) when players reverted to their more natural positions as the bench was emptied.

Assuming that JJH will be suspended for at least 1 game for the Red Card, the squad may be in trouble with the bench options for the Test v NZL.

O'Shea will be the starting #10. Fulivai will be the starting #15 (who can cover #10 at a pinch). Who is our back up #15 if Fulivai either gets injured or is moved to #10?

Craig will be the starting Hooker. Back up remains a big question. Neither Asiata or Pritchard did enough of the core aspects of that role to lay exclusive claim the reserve hooker jumper.

We are very vulnerable in second row. The back ups to Vatuvei and Hewat struggled in that role today, and neither really claimed the spot.

Loose forwards carried the ball too high into contact, and were a little flat footed at times and were often a little late and accurate at the breakdowns. Fox was probably the pick of the loosies while Summerhayes tolied away manfully but he looked a little lost wearing the #7 jumper. Moroney will start at 7. The starting #6 spot is wide open with most of the candidates not really given much of an opportunity to perform.

How good is Goddard? He will start on Saturday.

Hard to critique the backline performance too much as they were 6 vs 7 for most of the game.

On the positive side, our scrum did look good at times, and there were glimpses of good support play while we built pressure.

Anyone got any reports on how Izaiah Perese and Harley Fox played. They were outstanding for churchie this year

Australia on the backfoot with the loss of (10) early on.
Agree with RedsHappy,
our forwards were nowhere near as intense and efficient as NZ's at the breakdown.

Lineouts were also poor, both in attack and defense.

Best for Aust (15) Fulivai (13) Yeomans and (9) Goddard.

Even with 15 on the field, Australia will have to improve significantly to hang on against a full blown NZ schoolboys team especially in the forwards.

Missing Crichton and Hutchison. (yes i have the blue glasses on)

Hard day at the office for the boys, Deffinently need to have a good think about who their hard grunt workers are going to be in Saturdays clash because there was no one doing the true grunt work today ... And in my opinion @rugbywatch perese is a strong player but didn't show it today slipping off tackles.
-Ned Yeomens had a strong running game
-Goddard was no let down with good play and great kicking
-Reece Hewat picked up the intensity when he came on, he had good presence
Ball control was also pretty poor in general
