Groundswell support is the only way to get your voice heard when the dictators are 10 floors above in their Ivory tower.

If they hold the vote, it's their job to listen to their constituents.

We need names, phone numbers & email addresses of ALL Vote holders.

And to publish these ONLINE, and on the Frontpage of G&GR & The Roar. We need critical reach, FAST.

At the force game on Sunday arvo, you will notice a few banners around the ground with some rather uncomplimentary comments about the ARU displayed!

Cameron Clyne & Paul Maclean are up for re-election.

They were both appointed in 2013. I would have thought they got reappointed last year.

That said I did a fair bit of searching for the outcome of the 2016 AGM and couldn't find anything.

My favourite Dwyer quote in that article:
“There’s 55,000 registered players in Australia now, which is probably about the same as there are in Auckland,” he (Dwyer) said.
“A (ARU) spokesman says ‘no, no, that figure is inaccurate, we have 171 thousand-odd people who participated in five rugby experiences or more during the year.’ What sort of comment is that?”

Five rugby experiences? WTF?

I think the only way pulver keeps his job is if the outcome of negotiations is for a reduction of south african teams four and cut the japanese team with australian teams having an increased allowance to sign foreign players - specifically japanese players to help grow the japanese game.
i personally could stomach 1 south african team gone and the japanese team gone and a super 16 competition with each team playing each other once and a normal competition playoff structure.
that said - absent an increase in foreign player quotas - it doesnt really fix the issues in australian rugby
i think 5 is the way to go long term, but short team aus needs an influx of foreign talent to help strengthen sides.
that said - kurtley, To'omua, gill, dare i say JOC (James O'Connor), and countless others...the talent is there for 5 teams. just too much is offshore.

Annual report and financial statement is out

Pdf is here

https://issuu.com/australianrugbyunion/docs/high_res_copy_of_annual_report_-_op

Headline numbers
Big rise in revenue from the new broadcast deal and non-world cup year test match program.

Expenses up as well for the pro game, but big drop in corporate spend, and rise in community funding (both ARU programs and distributions to member unions)

Words totally, just totally, fail me (see link below).

The ARU today say they knew from the very moment they established the Rebels that 5 Super teams were not financially or commercially viable and could not be sustained.

Yet this is what they created, they wanted, they designed it.

But, today's news, they ‘could not escape this high-risk 5 team system until this rare and welcome opportunity to do so came forward, six years later.’

And now the entire edifice is non-viable 'placing the ARU under severe financial pressure'. (Btw: as a number of us here predicted from around 2012 would with certainty be the outcome of the 5 team model.)

Talk about walking head-long into a disaster principally of your own construction.

The incompetence, gross strategic irrationality, lack of judgement, and full-blown institutional stupidity on show today and in obvious past cases surely forces a complete recalibration of all prior known scales for assessing the severity of these human attributes of folly and foolishness.

It gets worse.
They have no idea how much income they will be forgoing with reduced teams.
Here's a tip Bill, if you save $7.5M on one less franchise, but your TV money is reduced by say $12M, that's not actually a good thing........

Hasn't it been said that the tv money won't change?

ARU also said that specify the expected savings when announcing the cut team.

Brett Impey made this statement

SANZAAR is delighted that its major broadcast partners have after due consideration agreed to the restructured format within the existing broadcast agreements. Our broadcast partners are an important stakeholder and their vision for Super Rugby moving forward is the same as ours,” Impey said.
