I would love to know whether there's actually been a measurable drop off in crowds for the Shute Shield since every game has been broadcast on Stan.

I would be highly surprised if there was one or if there was, whether it was considerable.
I could maybe believe a season on season decline this year, but that would be more likely due to an initial post covid bump followed by a return to stability than people choosing stan over attending the games.

CEO does due diligence. More at 6.
According to Waugh, he entertained the idea after he was approached by officials of the Roosters, but the move didn’t go past preliminary discussions.

The fact that no journo was willing to put their name to this article says enough. Good ol' Staff Writers at it again.

I call bullshit on this article. Even Phil is not dumb enough to mess with the golden goose.

This whole exchange could have been as simple as;

Roosters - can we borrow Suai'ali next year? We'll pay his salary to you.
Waugh - No thanks.

RA were reportedly considering loaning the 21-year-old back to the Roosters in 2026, inbetween the 2015 British and Irish Lions tour and the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

McLennan’s pitch to the board was that Sua'ali'i’s costs should be roughly divided by three and financed by the Wallabies, NSW Waratahs and the ARF.

It was based on a verbal commitment from a wealthy benefactor – a close contact of McLennan – who was willing to put in close to $500,000 a year to help fund Sua'ali'i’s salary.

Any financial assistance McLennan was banking on disappeared when he was removed as chairman. The funds have not materialised nor been sourced by the current RA administration, leaving head office (which now also owns the Waratahs) to cover Sua'ali'i’s multi-million-dollar deal from its own coffers.
Oh dear...

All of this just screams Leagie media and it's napoleon complex trying to find a way to spin Sua'ali'i wanting to play rugby union as a negative

Over a meal of Portuguese chicken prepared by his wife, Lucinda, McLennan sold his vision for the future of the Wallabies – and the RA boss got his man.
...
Sua'ali'i’s parents wanted to make sure he was going to be looked after – beyond the pay cheque. So the ambitious McLennan invited the then 19-year-old prodigy and his father Chris and mother Salina over for some of Lucinda’s Portuguese chicken together with the agent who would later strike one of the most significant deals in Australian sporting history.
This is an absolutely necessary detail and not at all a bizarre inclusion.

I don't for a second think that the Portuguese Chicken just came from Chargrill Charlies and was transferred onto platters for serving as a "home-cooked meal".

To be fair, as a Brisbanite who only recently lost his Chargrill Charlies virginity, I'd be pretty persuadable if Lucinda (or the help) popped that in front of me too.

Pulitzer stuff. :D

“I’m sorry for leaving,” Jones said to him.

“It was never my intent. I would have loved to have coached you but I know you’ll be a success.”

If Jones is right, the story of the night a Portuguese chicken beat a Sydney Rooster will go down as one of Australian sport’s most significant moments.

At least we know this was a human, there is no way an AI could write this atrociously

It’s tough to separate fact from speculation here. The promise of private funding definitely eased concerns, but if it’s now entirely funded by RA, that could create a significant financial strain.
Certainly a lot of money that could have been channelled into pathways - that said, I do look forward to seeing him playing Rugby.
