First I defended RA and now the Tahs FFS.

Understanding the real financial situation, and finding a solution to ensure your loss making organisation can continue to operate without insolvent operations is probably one of the only good management practices at the Tahs you could point to.

Its stupid to be pointing fingers at each other when Super Rugby is the problem. But I suppose being rational is pretty fucking boring.

The headline on WA Today is: Western Bears bid is dead: NRL severs ties with consortium after "low ball" proposal.

That does ignore the fact that at the time of the insolvency RA took back the IP and player contracts for the Rebels. Complete control for season 2025, no attached debt, still shut down.

Not quite; Rebels only played out the 2024 season because RA negotiated with the appointed administrator to cover any operational losses through the 2024 season, agreed upon because it was in the best interest of the existing creditors, they couldn't continue this model indefinitely without addressing the issue of a $23 million debt though. They also couldn't just phoenix the club and no attached debt, especially given the ATO was one of the largest creditors and is on the lookout for this kind of activity these days.

Won't be dead. They'll shake the tree for more of that sweet sweet cash the NRL swims in these days. They want more teams for TV. PNG has government money (for now) but they know it'll be a shit show. Perth ticks a geographic box and TV slot for them.


Rebels were not in the same boat at the Brumbies or Tahs. Broke sure but all the sides are. Reds keeping the head above water right now but we've seen them go to shit before. Rebels had Daugunu not play because they hadn't paid his relocation allowance, the ATO coming after them and they hitched their wagon to Paul Docherty who is turning out to be a bit of a chaos merchant to put it nicely. I'm sure the people at Hood AI who got told they'd only get 40% of their December Salary 5 days before Christmas wish they had an RA to step in and run it for the rest of their term.

The secret $4 million clause in Joseph Sua'ali'i’s Rugby Australia contract​

Joseph Sua'ali'i’s monster three-year deal with Rugby Australia includes a secret $4 million clause that could extend his time in rugby union until the end of 2029.

Rugby Australia last year announced that the sport had secured the services of Sua'ali'i on a record-breaking three-year contract worth a reported $5.3 million to lure the then 19-year-old away from rugby league.

Sources with knowledge of Sua'ali'i’s deal speaking on the condition of anonymity due to confidentiality have told the Herald that the deal struck with former RA chairman Hamish McLennan, and signed off by the board, also includes a two-year player option.

The option, secured by his agent Isaac Moses, allows his client the right to trigger a further two years on his contract if he chooses, and is worth at least the amount of the third season of his deal, taking the contract value to more than $8 million over five years.
