I think he’d be outstanding. Very good defender and a kicking game.

Battling Ricky Stuart for him at the Raiders apparently who would have 800-1m with Jack Wighton leaving and they play the same position.
It's a good time to be sniffing around the Broncos list, particularly if you've got multiple targets - cap pressure is likely to force at least a couple of them out

Hang on, where'd all this talk about poaching leaguies come from?

I must have missed something.

I thought that people wanted to grow the roots and develop our own and continually blast RA for talking about pinching NRL players?

I personally like to just speculate on the League targets thread.

There is some real talent that could make Rugby stronger though. We have a lack of depth through some positions such as 12 that League produce a lot of with 2 Centres, 3 Back rowers and a five eighth all capable of it.

Kangaroo fans always beating their chest reckoning they could take down the ABs in a hybrid comp.

I think if the wallabies played the kangaroos on consecutive weekends one weekend it’s 13’s next weekend it’s 15’s … safe to say I think wallabies would win both fixtures.

I disagree I think the 13s week would be an utter massacre.

I don’t like it but a lot of those guys are better athletes and I can’t imagine seeing some of the Rugby lumberers trying to cover more turf with less defenders. The ability of their forwards to pass we are only starting to see now with some Wallaby plays.

I reckon we’d see the same scores.

That's a ridiculous call, why on earth would the Wallabies win at league? The Wests Tigers would put 50 on the Wallabies, probably more. Maybe even a NSW Cup side. Just like a Shute Shield side would smash the Kangaroos..

Well I am of the logic that rugby league is a game of big fish in a small pound where as the wallabies are more small fish in a big pond.

I think rugby australia always get the cream of the crop athletes but just lack ability to signing everyone they would like

Horses for courses.

The team from the last Bled would have max 6 blokes that would make an NRL team. Bell, Valetini, Petaia, Marky, Koro, Perese. Maybe Tate if he bulked up a lot.

Of the Kangaroos World Cup final team. I reckon 14 of them would start for a Super Rugby team immediately. Only Campbell-Gillard, trobojevic and Martin, I struggle to see a spot.

Anyway, taken this thread off track. My bad

Horses for courses indeed. Which is why you can't make a like for like comparison. Several players in Rugby are fairly specialised to play just Rugby. So you would opt for a more League like look. As opposed as a straight Wallabies squad selected to play Rugby.

RA and the selected RWC squad.
I look at the scores from Rennie's last tour and the huge injury list he had (close losses to France and Ireland) - I would have kept him on board and made the call after the 2023 RWC.
For Eddie to reference 2027 now as he has done - man, pick the best for 2023 "4 more years" is plenty of time to build a squad for 2027.
I support Rennie and Eddie - but gee, I hope this team wasn't picked so he had an excuse should we not do well.

Wow just looked at this thread - i started May 2013 - 10 years on.
I started it as i had concerns that Rugby Australia was off the mark with that of Australian rugby.
Since then i believe Rugby in Aus has declined because their vision was off the mark.
2013 rank 3
2023 rank 8

Rugby Australian in my humble opinion started loosing track, lost touch with the Australian Rugby pathways quite a few years ago, whilst Eddies has referenced this importance and connection over the last 6 months - it cant be fixed before the RWC.
Why the change in coach prior.
Why pick a team now for the 2027 RWC.

Yeah, there's not much particularly new or interesting in that Cully article (though I largely agree with it).

The most interesting thing about it is probably the timing - there was a meeting of the Australian super rugby chief executives a couple of weeks ago and all the reporting before it was about Phil Waugh trying to get agreement on his national club competition model. If you've still got those same executives still going on record saying they don't think it's the way to go and we need the NRC back it sounds like he didn't get the buy in he was looking for.

It's 100% nothing that hasn't previously been expressed. An 8 team national competition built off of the back of the Super Squads is the best vehicle for developing domestic players 50-250. Brumbies, Rebels, Force like it because it keeps the core of the squads together for those additional games rather than see them fuck off to Brisbane, Sydney, NZ etc., QRU liked it because of how good a development tool it was for them. Both Kiwis and Saffas involved at the professional level can see that the Australians work just as hard, if not harder than their boys on the training paddock and in the gym, but just don't have those genuine high performance minutes in the legs at 23-25.

The questions, as always, are around financial viability (I think this is overstated particularly given the substantially greater buy in re: Rugby from Stan as opposed to Fox but needs to be considered), buy in from players who are outside the Super EPS/Academy groups, and buy in from the rugby community at large, none of which are problems that can be solved without some sort of concessions and/or investment which RA doesn't have the capacity to make until the inpouring of European money over the next 4 years occurs.

As much as I like PW trying to get buy in to grow the grass roots - that's one thing. Getting a properly functioning third tier is also of importance and needs to happen
