If you've highly paid people in your business already and you still hire consultants to help them then sometimes you have to wonder what you're paying them for!

There's a few reasons why; the in house guys know the answer, the consultants get brought in and conclude the same answer, but the C-Suite only listens then. From a Government perspective, if they follow the consultants lead and it goes tits up, they can point to the consultants and blame them.

Yep. Often it’s about separation.

Yep I get that and agree and I've made some good coin in the last few years on that basis. I've seen some silly stuff (how's that for some alliteration) involving consultants too.

Bingo. You can't sue the consultants (their terms of engagement won't let you), and you don't have to try and fire someone who fucked up from within the org - notoriously difficult to do in government.

It is basically a no-fault divorce.

So the captains are now calling for a review, and they want to be the reviewers??? Like Wiggs, these guys have absolutely no concept of corporate governance. They are basically saying, rugby must be run our way, by us. NFJ and Kearns were great players, but I am rapidly running out of any respect for them as people.
Any review must be completely independent, otherwise it's a complete waste of time.

Reviews are always a waste of time. Their recommendations are so rarely taken on board.

Talking about reviews and consulting. I worked in consulting for a while. My boss taught me that on just about any assignment the consultant will find the answer or answers in the first couple of days. The rest of the assignment time is spent proving the answer is correct and selling it to the sponsor of the assignment.

Some assignments do bring advanced techniques or market information to bear which the client organisation either does not know about, or cannot afford to access. But in general the answers are in fact known within the organisation, but need to be clarified, identified, packaged up and sold (to coin a phrase) to the powers that be.

Well said Froggy. It's hard to respect them when they show zero respect for others. Doesn't help to create a feeling of unity.

The threat was contained in a letter distributed by Rugby Union Players Association chief executive Justin Harrison on behalf of the 10 captains on Tuesday to member unions and Super Rugby chief executives. A copy of his letter was leaked to The Australian.

Another leak to the Australian?

Reg......... not so subtle this time?

I just don't get Harrison's involvement? Is he acting in the best interests of the current players or is he now representing the captains?

Agreed. He's leaking stuff directly to Halloran which jeorpadises RA, the players' employer. It seems he has decided that the best thing for players is to side with the captains to implement the overhaul, and/or for RA to go into administration and reboot.

Those ex-captains have now consigned themselves to watching from the sidelines now. This is such a naked attempt at a power grab that I'm chuckling at how unsubtle and incompetent it is. Their tin pot coup has failed. The best thing now would be for all the non-NSW unions to band together and support the RA Board, so we can start to get the game running in this country again.
