Tony Abbott's out of a job at the moment....

I say this in jest. However, we could do worse. At least he has got some political connections.

Coached Sydney Uni 2nd grade for a few years back before they were the force they are now. Joe Hockey was one of his props.

Interesting interview by Grant Samuels on the quality of Directors in corporate Australia.

Particularly critical of some Directors who are gender equality advocates and there is nothing wrong with that in advocating for equality. It just doesn’t mean (as a gender equality advocate) that you have the skill set appropriate to serve on a Board In this case Rugby Australia and by doing so you actually set back the cause of gender equality.

Unfortunately I think Rugby Australia has fallen into this trap with its Board composition coming on top of a conga line of ineffective ex players (male) taking a cushy Board role.

If you are a Director of an ASX listed company you have to publish the skill set you bring to the Board every Annual Report. Rugby Australia as a professional game should seriously look at this with the Board clean out.

Sorry being an ex player, gender equality advocate, real estate agent in Paul Maclean, orthopaedic surgeon in Brett Robinson, etc means you contribute sweet nothing to Rugby Australia.

Where is the Broadcast media expert on the Board over last couple of years and having a qualified lawyer may have been helpful in the whole Folau drama.

Yes Kenny, every nominee for the board needs to clearly enunciate why they want to be on the board and what they are going to contribute to the advancement of rugby while they are there.

There also needs to be a public nomination process, not the secretive behind closed doors stuff where two candidates mysteriously emerge to fill two vacancies.

Why not try to achieve something doable, like World Peace? Rugby Australia Limited (sic) is a corporation, and the voting rights of members are clearly laid out in its constitution.

What or who could possibly be worse?
he has a demonstrated history of being a good wrecker, but an appalling manager.

he failed dismally in every ministerial post he’s ever held.

Errrr. Phil Kearns?

Abbott actually does have some attributes (and I despise the man's political record). He seems to live a fairly humble life in many respects, which is a lot more than we can say about the usual crew of rugby royalty. He was a Rhodes Scholar, got a Blue, worked as a journalist for The Bulletin.

If you cannot imagine worse than Abbott you don't have much imagination. You don't manage to hold your grip on a seat like Warringah for as long as he did without some sort of political ability. And political ability, coupled with rugby DNA, is just what we need.

The subject is closed as far as I am concerned. Fire away all you like, but maybe also put up your preferred candidates?

Who was behind the women’s 7s programme in the lead up to the 2016 olympics and what are they doing now?

You change the constitution. It's not that complicated. You prefer to make things seem so complicated because it suits your narrative.

Graeme Samuel is mostly right I think. There is this club of candidates for directorships at big organisations in Australia and it gets down to how well you know people like David Gonski, basically (not that much has changed from "it's not what you know it's who you know") or what connections you made as a federal politician. It's led to a very shallow talent pool. You only have to look at the super funds and other large institutions to see evidence of that.

Tim Walsh - coaching the mens team.

So with this whole of sport review of the game the Captains 10 want, I assume they are paying for it considering they also know of the sports dire financial status?

I know he was the coach, but who did he report to? Just the ARU HP unit?

You’d think that cost will be the first consideration of any review at the moment, and the board haven’t consented to it yet anyway, only said they will consider it. I reckon they could start with a survey to every registered participant in the country, and make the results public. That part at least won’t cost much and as long as they ask the right questions will enable them to devise an appropriate set of objectives.

Also they are going to involve Twiggy. This is all in this morning’s Aus BTW, their ideas are being considered by RA and an interim CEO is set to be installed.

OK, I take it that is a picture you posted, so I cant copy and paste the relevant bit.

But the bit about Twiggy being unhappy about RC failing to sign a deal with Fox, I find hard to believe.

Perhaps he is unhappy about the non signing of a Media deal. But I cant see Twiggy being a mouthpiece for Fox.

I think this is News Ltd putting their own spin on the supposeive interview

Yep, and they all just circulate from board to board with no particular loyalty or vision for anything. Just another notch to try to get themselves to the next step.

Ben Whitaker was the high performance director through that period.
Ok what I was specifically looking for was someone who was the next tier down who might have gained some higher level experience since then. Maybe the answer isn’t to get someone who has already reached the pinnacle, rather someone on the way up who is ready for the next step.
