Well wait until you discover google!!!

Wait until you find out how many $$$ are involved!!! How much is Izzy worth? Hoopers new contract?

Even worse - better pathways that RA offers!!!!!
https://australiansportscamps.com.au/blog/how-to-get-into-esports-in-australia/

While RA cuts and locks out the future with long contracts and the rest Aussie rugby is bickering and declining opportunities, what about our future talent you say?

Pffft! Check out the crowd sizes and remember - this is online video game stuff!

You're not the only one behind the times. Our sport is also about a decade or so behind!

But fear not, the RA board and State Unions counterparts are on there way to investigate:

Anyone know what's going on with the RA Board at the moment?

I must have missed a few people dropping off but there seems to be 5 of them at the moment?

http://www.rugbyaustralia.com.au/RugbyAUAdmin/BoardofDirectors.aspx

Clyne
Robinson
Marlow
McLean
Sherry

The constitution states there should be not less than 6 directors (excluding the CEO).

However a quorum is 5.

Can anyone remember any news as to where our Board went? When did Eales drop off?

Eales term expired. His spot was taken by Phil Waugh.

They added another bloke who was from Gordon - I think his surname was Rorke.

This was missed by many, but it's a rare sight - good news!

If I were Raelene, I would spend my week talking about this. So important for our game to get these school programs running well:

Absolutely. Getting the game into and regularly played particularly at the primary school level would go a long way to reviving our fortunes in the years to come. And it's no surprise that girls are driving much of that growth. It's something RA should be going out of their way to support. I have my ideas about how the game should be structured in this country and a lot of that has to do with freeing up funds that could and if it were to occur should be directly invested into making the game a prominent schools sport from the ground up and encouraging as many young girls to play as possible.

It's one of the few positive legacies of Bill Pulver's reign, and it does prove that making the game appeal to all prospective players at the grassroots can work.

Yeah, it's easy to say the game just isn't popular when you haven't actually ever tried to make it so. Rugby is and has always been a great game to play. I've played a number of sports including League and always thought that it's much more involved than most as a player.

Getting the game out there and making it a option for kids certainly will help at the grassroots level. Part of the reason I at the very least like the idea of the school-club system the NSWRU are looking to employ in Western Sydney. If they looked to emulate the U18 and U16 right done to U10s or even U8s (so they would be U18s, 16s, 14s, 12s, 10s and 8s) and managed to get say 50% of the schools in the region participating then the game would look entirely different.

Consistency by and large isn’t a natural talent though, yes some players are more gifted at consistency than others but by and large consistency comes down to training and coaching.

Remember this isn’t a Japan v SA once in a generation type occurrence, Australia is matching and beating these teams semi regularly, our schoolboy and U20’s are also mixing it with the best.

Could our talent pool improve? Yes ofc 1000% we could get into public schools and get greater numbers but our top 30 or so players are more than good enough to match it with their rivals from NZ, SA, Eng, Ire. To me at least it’s abundently clear it’s a coaching issue, not solely on Cheika, obviously the super coaches aren’t doing phenomenal at the moment but the wallabies current problems are more or less the fault of Cheika
You are NEVER getting into public schools.

League and AFL rule supreme in public school mentality and the rugby union community is utterly despised by the general public now - and that is never going to be repaired.

I think that’s a little defeatist.............

We’ll never topple them but we can certainly try to re-engage and gain some
more interest.

But kids also need decent teams to get behind, and players to aspire to.

But then again maybe I’m just delusional because I grew up in Canberra where rugby also thrived in public schools..........

What is your evidence to support that it is 'despised'? Seems a little much to me.

In fact given the great strides we are making with women, I'd suggest it is completely erroneous.

The data (in my post above) actually shows we are making good inroads into public schools.

My experience in my patch is the kids will play anything they are given the opportunity to play. The certainly don’t despise rugby.

But it is much easier for them to play league, they are more connected to it and, if league and rugby ever conflicts league have no concerns with flexing their respective market control to make the kids commit to league or get left behind.

With regards to AFL, they have made inroads in a league stronghold through being highly present in numbers in the school system. We are grossly underrepresented in comparison.

Out of the 100 or so people who I know who used to all watch rugby (because we all used to chat about it) , I am the only one who watches *any* rugby at all. Some proportion react in a strong and negative manner to it I. E. I am not allowed to bring it up in any discussion as they absolutely detest the mere mention of it - their kids will never play rugby),

So my evidence is based solely on my own personal connections - which I acknowledge is also a small data set that could also be heavily skewed by them just about all being from a public school background.

If you have studies which show that the game is thriving and awesome and there is absolutely nothing to worry about - excellent. Glad to hear that.

Carry on doing what you're all doing, the game is in marvellous hands

In fact - I am gonna question that study right out now - was that study in any way shape or form used to obtain any form of government or corporate funding?

If so - then it has absolutely been tailored to provide a result that indicates that the game is growing.

I love it. The study above is illegitimate but the study of your mates is on point.

I got my threads all mixed up, but I posted it a few days ago here. It's worth a read.

Sure it's not a bulletproof sign that things are going swimmingly, but it's hard to see how it's not a small piece of good news.
