Sigh, Phil Waugh. Seriously? Another banker running Rugby Australia? I've seen that show twice before.

Give us someone who actually has experience managing in a sporting organisation not the financial sector.
Todd Greenberg (former NRL CEO) and Kylie Rogers (current Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial at the AFL) are some of the other names floated. I don't know much about Rogers but has worked with MacLennan before at channel 10. On the face of it both look significantly better credentialed for the role than Waugh.

What's Gilly doing after AFL?

Correct me if I’m wrong but Greenberg didn’t leave his NRL posting with an enhanced reputation.

I’m sure it would annoy Pony Boy but I’d rather do that other ways.

I think the rumour at the time was he and V'landys didn't work well together and that was why he left. Hard to be too critical of his time as CEO from a rugby perspective.

Andrew Demetriou would be the dream candidate but he’s probably happily retired. I think it will be someone that can hold their own infront of a camera as they will see the next 3/4yrs about been aggressive and finally making in roads in the media, otherwise we risk just meekly disappearing from the landscape post RWC 2027

Much prefer someone with NRL/AFL background over a rugby background. We need to mimic the AFL/NRL as much as possible, it's so frustrating rugby doesn't understand this.
Mate Qld rugby tried an AFL from CEO, take my word for it not sure he did anything, except say in AFL we didn't pay for ground maintenance etc, but never seemed tp transfer these things to rugby! It doesn't always work.

There will be 3 or 4 pissed off contenders for the AFL CEO job as of this morning. Tom Harley from the Swans could be a left-field option, but Kylie Rogers or Travis Auld are probably more conventional candidates. Hard to see how they would top Phil Waugh and his decade long banking career though.

Actually WOB may of hit nail on the head, maybe there just isn't enough room for both Andy and Hamish on the CEO's seat in the office? Certainly not at press conferences where CEO usually makes announcements!;)

Or maybe someone like Phil W is better at nodding!

Out of left field but James Sutherland? comes from an international team sport background & already has an understanding of a few of the countries we come up against as well has a great relationship with venues & the parties that run stadiums. Currently running golf australia after he stepped away from cricket

There’s other options in Rugby circles like Owen Finegan who has been CEO of the Kids Cancer Project for almost a decade. Multiple other private sector roles as well as Coaching and some Rugby administration.

Has clashed with Eddie in the past….
