I haven't read the whole thread but stats tell a bit of a story about the players:
1. Inability to back up. Physical.
2. Inconsistency in closing out matches. Mental.
Rennie's Record overall is now 34 matches, 13 wins, 18 losses and 3 draws.
By year:
2020 - P6, 1W, 2L and 3D. Average score 13.83 v 23.16. Results blown out by two losses to ABs by 20 and 38 within 6 days of each other.
2021 - P14, 7 W, 7L. Average score 25.36 v 26.71. Another blow out v AB by 35 backing up 7 days after losing opening Bledisloe. Another bad loss to England on tour by 15-32 backing up six days from narrow loss to Scotland.
2022 - P14, 5 W, 9L. Average score 23.36 v 27.71. Blow out v Argentina by 31 points backing up after 7 days of beating them 41-26. Flogged 40-14 by NZ nine days after narrow 37-39 loss.
During Rennie's tenure, he has used a large number of players - often due to injury but is he looking for players who can back up? That is what is required in the RWC. There have been 6 blow outs by 20+ including four from NZ. Most of them within a week of previous game where we looked competitive.
Including 3 draws, the Wallabies have had 15 matches when the result is 3 points or less. Very frustrating that 6 were wins and 6 were losses.
One other win (Wales in 2022) by 5 points and a loss (to England in 2022 by 4 points) makes it 17 matches (50%) where we so close.
What hurts? Losing to the ABs by big scores in 4 out of last 9 games, losing series to England and losing to Italy are all black marks.
So Wallabies fans, hang in there. Recency bias is influencing how we see Dave Rennie as a coach with 2022 a relative failure compared to 2021.
But with our best team on the field, we will be right up there in 2023.
