PRESS RELEASE

Rugby Australia have just announced "Mission Accomplished" Two Years Ahead of Schedule.

It was 2003 and the Wallabies had contested three out of the first five RWC finals, with victories in 1991 and 1999 and the game was awash with money, media coverage and a growing player base after hosting the 2003 RWC. It was then that the ARU came up with a far-sighted plan to turn Australian rugby into a shambolic mess on the verge of bankruptcy with declining participation at all levels of the game and almost zero mainstream media coverage. Two years ahead of the 2023 target RA can now proclaim 'Mission Accomplished.'

Gees RA must be happy in some ways with the French test series 1-1 and into a decider with a much needed boost to the coffers with decent crowds in rampant covid outbreaks

I was thinking something similar with how lucky we were that we had a largely unaffected Super season and now with the wallabies it’s much easier to move around compared to the NRL & ARL with 30 teams playing in a bubble.

Yeh and hopefully things calm down for the RC and bledisloe. Fortunate qld not in situation of nsw and can draw decent crowds to ensure RAs bank balance remains healthy.

Twiggy Forrest set to pocket another $2.4billion in dividends from Fortescue profits this year. $6billion in dividends paid in the past 3 years. That’s not including his wealth still tied up in the value of the company.

Crazy money… let’s just sell RA to him

Not too long ago Rugby Australia turned him and his money down when he tried to save the Force, RA may have backed the wrong horse at the time.

They've since rectified that wrong (as much as possible).

I'd be bending over to get him to the table. It's not like RA didn't desperately need the constitutional reforms he demanded, anyway.

The old board knocked it back because at the time it was more of a take over offer. In retrospect it prob was the wrong move they are all pretty much gone now anyway

The decision to revert to the current gold jersey colour might have been an emotional one, but it certainly wasn't irrational.

As Rugby Australia continues to struggle for $$s and any meaningful improvement the recommendations for the way forward from over 12 months ago look even more appropriate...

Lower the sights, aim for success, focus on timezone, reduce the amount/cost of travel, don't try and fix everybody's problems, slow and steady growth from the grass roots, seek more corporate sponsorship, (professional) competition managed by professionals not amateurs, ensure that media coverage is readily accessible and affordable.

Yeah it’s a good step.
Eventually I just want to see the First Nations jersey adopted as the primary jersey, but in the current gold Color.
Why?

if inclusiveness is the goal, then the next step should be developing talent to a stage whereby you could select a team that would be competitive.
thats a more noble goal IMO than appropriating a jersey.

It is a conflation to present these two ideas as being in competition. Run with the jersey ILTW. Hopefully it is an attractive one.
