Mitchell has also signed an overseas contract. That may have something to do with it.

Disagree, I think Deans is actually being quite diplomatic. Everyone knew that JOC (James O'Connor) had a howler and Deans basically said that it was tough because Lilo got injured and that he had helped get us as close as we were. In reality, JOC (James O'Connor) had little/nothing to do with us being close, so Deans backs him up more than he really should.

If Deans had come out and said that JOC (James O'Connor) had a blinder then he'd just look stupid. What should he have said?

Firstly he gets rid of terms like 'I guess' and 'probably'.

He says something like 'James did the best he could in difficult circumstances'. That is all that is required.

Just managing to watch the second half in full

Davies was offside pretty much all night.

But jeez Pollock did every single thing he could to keep us in it

And Simmons is a numpty

I would suggest that Scotty, what's so unusual about that? Wallabies have often used 9 at playmaker, and to use one at 12 as a secondary one is not unusual. All Blacks used to do it with Aaron Mauger.
In fact in NZ they tended to be used a hell of a lot as second playmaker right up until the likes of Umaga and Nonu etc. I did feel a bit for JOC (James O'Connor) as I think if you had trained to play that style, it can then make it bloody hard to have it all ripped apart in first minute of game. I really don't think you are giving Wallabies their due on performance!!

The OP suggested that Lilo was picked as the primary playmaker. Surely he would have been at 10 if that was the case!

@Scotty- why? You ARE familiar with the concept of a second five eighths as a rugby concept, are you not?

Why did Beale take over the kicking? JOC (James O'Connor) had a kick for goal when he was on the field then Beale takes over and it want due to distance?!

Speaking of refs, when the first scrum had us being driven back it was he lions who stood up. For all the talk of dominant scrims, it is only an offense if you collapse or break the bind or stand up! I thought at the time, dominant scrum well rewarded but on review it was the lions who stood up. What gives?

The lions won the hit and got a roll on. Wallabies seemed to be on the skates but then got some traction and managed to put a shove in that caused the scrum to go up. It certainly appeared that the Lions were the ones that stood up, but can't complain too much when you had previously been going backwards at a fair speed.

There was a passage of play in the second half (around 57-60 min) that showed exactly why JOC (James O'Connor) should not have been flyhalf. Two occasions:

1. JOC (James O'Connor) has the ball and Beale puts in a great support run back at an angle. JOC (James O'Connor) doesn't pass - it likely would have lead to a break or half break if he did.

2. Beale has the ball and JOC (James O'Connor) puts in a great support run back at an angle. Beale does pass and JOC (James O'Connor) almost makes a break and gets well over the advantage line.

I find it difficult to understand how having Lilo at 12 would have corrected this basic lack of vision or use of support players?

This is the same O'Driscoll that recently received a three week suspension for stomping then? Rugby is full of these incidents unfortunately-lets just wait and see what the judiciary does or doesn't serve up.

Oh Kev and Umaga were cleared by an independent citing commissioner-maybe Horwill will too? In the hands of the rugby gods.

True enough. At least it's not the SANZAR judiciary!

I'd forgotten about O'Driscoll getting that suspension.

I'm not calling you stupid. Necessarily...

Sure a lot of time all I read when looking at stuff you and a select few others post is "QUEENSLAND! RARGH! QUADE! QUADE! QUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADE QUEENSLAND! TAPS! BLAH! RARGH! SACKDEANSHESKILLINGRUGBY! LINKLINKLINKLINK! QUEEEEEEEEEEENSLAND! Garllllginggaragllingg ... quade...."

But a lot of the time you make me think at least.

When you have two five eighths what the fucking fuck does that matter? If you want to start picking words apart, you'll start to sound like Deans.

I note that throughout this forum, some of you are including Lilo in the 2nd Test backline. Has the mandatory 1-match ban been dropped for those who have a nana-nap during the previous match?

I think it's been replaced with these concussion tests and whatnot. I preferred minimum three weeks they had about five years ago
