I just checked it. The players bind simultaneously as Leota makes contact.

It's fine.

Your photo even proves this, the players haven't binded/latched yet. The next frame would be both of them making contact with Vunipola. You're talking about the Lawes and Genge arriving milliseconds before Leota at best. It's simultaneous real-time.
Leota was the only tackler. The others were all driving on Itoje. And leotas contact occurs after Lawes and genge have bound. It’s close but it’s after.

Watch it real time. Not frame by frame. No referee is calling that before.
I have - multiple times. Just posted the stills for those who can’t be bothered. I maintain they were very clearly pre bound. But I’ve said enough on the issue

Stop using "very clearly".

Your first photo:
- Lawes bound, Genge not
Second photo:
- Both bound but Leota made contact

There's absolutely nothing clear about it.

Watch the replay in slow Mo from 40secs. You can see the point when Leota is contacted as he jolts backwards - under the force of three people driving forwards. It’s pretty clear.

Look, I actually agree with you, but read the BBC Sports page and the comments section there. The English supporters are convinced the Referee was against them. I guess it's the nature of the game.
Sure as hell 90% of the time supporters from whereever will find the ref shafted their own team, it's how a lot watch rugby with head cocked to side and their one open eye facing away fronm tv/or field, and waiting for commentators to tell them why their team was dudded!

Late to the discussion and can't be arsed trading back:

Are you actually expecting the maul to be refereed to the letter of the law
Nah the question is given Itoje passed the ball to vunipola was the poms try a legal maul or an illegal flying wedge/multiple player latch.
Opinions divided it seems
Largely academic - but it was a set play so we’ll likely see it again and it makes a big difference in how to legally counter it.

some poor referee/TMO decisions had an impact on the game. Perese's YC, which I think was legit but Hill's attempted intercept treated differently. The 50/22 decision that I believe was incorrect. The injury causing tackle on Neville. The catch outside the field of play and knock back into play when the player involved jumped and landed totally outside touch. The marginal crooked call on the lineout throw.

No issues with the ref, I don't think any of there calls affected the result of the game. We had chances to win, but made errors in crucial moments which changed momentum - any of JOC (James O'Connor)'s kicks, or the FF (Folau Fainga'a) crooked line-out.

I think I wouldn't mind starting FF (Folau Fainga'a) and bring on Porecki at half time, just to have the solid line-out thrower at the end of the game. Although FF (Folau Fainga'a)'s probaby a bigger body would prob be handy starting (if he gets his throw straight).

Yet such a small margin was all required for TMO to state the ruck before the 50/22 was very clearly over the half way line.
I wouldn't say it's valid to compare one incident that has a clear yes/no answer (as determined by the ball's position in relation to a physical marker on the field) and another that is much murkier and requires judgement of dynamic movements of multiple players.

I had a look at what caused Neville’s injury on the Spidercam replay that you get with Stan at 1.34.00 mark. On the broadcast looks like English player joined completely wrong side of the ruck. On Spidercam what it was is he tripped over a falling Australia player and fell into the ruck accidentally without an intention to join or bind. Up straight away and back on side. Just a unfortunate unintentional collision.
The tap back and landing outside the field of play would mean it crossed the line of touch and would be a scrum back where the kick took place. So I thought that one was in Australia’s favour. The not straight line outs marginal but not unreasonable. The 50/22 I thought was harsh espically when you have a replay to look at .

Well, that certainly was 35 minutes of being out-thought and bashed silly until we realised there was a game of rugby underway.

The good news: Rennie is no idiot, so will prep the team differently for Saturday.
The bad news: he'll have to prep the team differently anyway because half of them will be injured.

Hills attempted intercept was with 2 hands, so somehat different I think BR. I really don't like these YCs for the knockdown/attempted intercept, but maybe would agree when done against my team. I don't know which is correct way to rule on it to betruthful.
