Therenqas 30k last year for the saffa it was dumb to play the pumas in perth half of sa live in perth couple that with how shit subi is to watch rugby (lots of ppl refuse to go there for rugby) add in the weather 19k+ isnt bad. The weather was as bad as the game against scotland.

Scrum still embarrassingly shit. Last scrum of the night was good though - new front row and Timani behind...
The pack is just depressing:
Slipper - cannot scrum. Bottleneck in the backline.
Moore - new scrum laws do not suit. Rest of his game has turned to shit, ie errors, penalties, missed tackles
Alexander - cannot scrum.
Simmons - no mongrel. Penalty and error magnet

Fardy - solid player, but not a ball running option
Hooper - great player, but light weight
Mowen -line out general, but that's about it. Journeyman.
Looking forward to the return of Pocock, Palu, Higgers, Nau and Horwill.
Robbo needs to be reinstated. Timani also needs to start, despite all his shortcomings.
Skelton to be fast tracked via the spring tour.
And a global search to be undertake for a decent tight head prop.

The discussion through the week was around me being informed that the halves didn't matter since the forwards were so shit. "Deckchairs on the titanic" I think it was described as.
Do you not think White had an appreciable positive impact on the outcome that Genia likely would not have had?

Amen to the first part of that. I'm glad McKenzie decided to 'dumb' down the game plan a bit and kick it out of our 22 instead of running it...
That said, I feel a bit of sympathy towards Link. He has taken over the reigns (spelling?) at the same time as the new scrum laws have taken effect. And despite the idiot commentary, their main influence has been to take a lot of the shenanigans out of the scrum and award the stronger team, which certainly isn't us. In that second half did we win something like one from 4 or 5 on our own feed and almost gave away a penalty a feed for each of the Argentinians? We are pretty much going into games with a 20 point handicap on scrums alone. Until we can fix that the rest of our game is pretty much secondary.

Re State rivalry - I think its good for Aust rugby, especially with the super rugby derby system; It just creates more interest. In terms of people getting angry on internet forums about too many players getting picked from one side....well I'm confident that has no real world implications.

I just don't understand why Slipper is playing LH. He's going to have to specialise with the new rules and he plays TH for the reds most of the year why change his side for the wallabies.
The wallabies only hope of success is Horwill, Pocock, Higginbotham staying fit for an extended period, and Skelton+Pyle developing into a test standard players. And all of it has to happen soon....

Surely now the coaching staff are going to look at the scrum technique of the players. As predicted the changing of players (Alexander for Kepu) did nothing to address the fundamental issues.
One thing I hope the IRB does address is the calling of the feed. Obviously thought of with good intentions but the unintended consequence is the the non-feeding team is being overly advantaged in timing their push instead of waiting for the actual feed they shove on the call. I would rather just see the ref silent and warn the 9s if they delay the feed. If it is delayed again then free kick them, there will be no more delays.
Apart from that one aspect I am loving seeing the scrums return to a true scrummaging contest when the ball is actually in play.

I have not yet figured out what's wrong with the half putting the ball in after "set".

Was the last scrum good because they improved or because the starting Argie front and second row had been replaced?
As for recalling Robinson, he looked like he was attempting to live up to his nickname in the Woodies game, he was thicker through the waist than across the shoulders. I am not singling him out in this, but most Australian Frontrowers appear overweight when compared to their international opposition. The Uni front rowers appeared much trimmer than the woodies (excepting the backrower turned hooker Roach?)

Apparently the scrum has to be deemed to be square and steady first, hence the ref call. I think you agree that there is no need for the call at all and the half can determine the timing of the feed, and I agree that I had hoped to see less intervention being needed.
