Hopefully he gets that at the Reds next season, if not then a year or two in France might do him a world of good

There has been a lot of talk that not Many players improved much with thorn as head coach
Tupou although injured, Wilson did cop it about being to one dimensional, petaia and Paisami not really improving so maybe a coach will help out

The thing about Wilson that’s concerning is he’s essentially been sent back from Wallabies camp in back to back years with a list of ‘work ons’ and yet hasn’t been able to figure it out.

He obviously felt hard done by from Rennie because sources close to him have told me he nearly jumped through the ceiling with joy when Eddie’s sudden hiring was announced. But he’s in the same position now with another coach.

I feel with Wilson he and his body are caught in two roles, perhaps due to the asks that have been made of him at a domestic level. Has all the effort in the world but not physically dominant as that tight #8 runner that he’s been asked to be. Shown lots of promise earlier as that wider running #6 but may need to shave a few kgs and focus on a bit more agility to shine here, particularly if jumping is a focus.

Rugby Australia is seeking approval for Australia ‘A’ to play Portugal as a curtain raiser to the Wallabies-France friendly in Paris in late August as part of a broader strategy that will have a 15-man shadow squad based in England during the Rugby World Cup.

...

The Jason Gilmore-coached “A” team is then pencilled in to play against Australia’s pool C rival Portugal at Stade de France on August 28, in a double-header with the pre-World Cup warm-up game between the Wallabies and France. World Rugby is yet to sign off on the fixture.

The team to take on world No.16 Portugal would contain Wallabies squad members and Australia A players, who will be selected from the “train-on” squad named last week by Jones.

A group of 15 Australian players will then re-locate to England and Wales, where they will play three games for the famous Barbarians invitational side, in fixtures against club teams Bristol (September 7), Scarlets (September 16) and Harlequins (October 7).

No stone unturned it looks like.

All sounds pretty smart to me, although unusual I think to have a friendly against a team who we will be playing in the actual tournament, world rugby might reject it on that basis?

And it's something I want to see expanded in the years to come. Whenever the Wallabies are touring up north it would be great if our A squad would play the likes of Portugal, Spain and other REC teams. Alongside annual involvement in the PNC (Pacific Nations Cup).

Is Swain injured or has he dropped below guys like Neville, Canham and Salakai-Loto in the pecking order?

Well that proves that Ollie Sapsford is eligible at least. That squad can put a team with some serious Wallabies experience. Not bad at all.
Strictly speaking it proves that they believe he's eligible, not necessarily that World Rugby agrees, but yes it does look pretty likely he is.

Interesting that Swain has been dropped from the squad (or shadowing the Wallabies?)

By my count that team can put out a XV with 300 caps in it. Not awful for a B team.

Cale, Gamble, Daugunu, Paisami and Tuttle also all dropped from the squad.

Daugunu to me is the only one that was playing well at the end of the Super Rugby season.

Paisami's career in Aus feels like it on life support. Flat start, rapid rise and been a steady fall. Injuries haven't helped but gee it reminds me of Ben Tapuai.

Tuttle is no big deal. We drop off pretty quick at 9 after J Gordon as the 4th. Cale didn't make sense to begin with.

I would have thought considering the wobs will be in syd they might have released a few to go back into this side

For some of it I wonder whether certain players from this team are more likely to go to the RWC than some players outside the 23 in the main squad.

I.e. Foley is surely a much bigger chance at going to France than Donaldson.

What does that team look like in people's opinions?

Schoupp, Longergan, Fa’amausili, Neville, Salakaia-Loto/Hanigan, Swinton, Wilkin, Wilson
Gordon, Foley, Anderson, O'Connor, Flook, Toole, Campbell
Fainga'a, Lambert, Talakai, Hanigan/Salakaia-Loto, Uru, Fines-Leleiwasa, Walton, Sapsford

With Van Nek and Canham as train ons?
