Australia A - Back on the Cards

Hogie

Herbert Moran (7)
Carter Gordon needs to be in the A squad. We have seen glimpses of his skills and think it will do wonders for him to be involved ed in a high performance environment. Hopefully Flook will also be back from injury. Jahrome Brown is another who has had a great season and also would be a good A candidate.

If Lolesio is in the Test squad, you'd assume they'd have Carter Gordon and Ben Donaldson and maybe Edmed in the squad.

Its been reported Wallaby squad will be 36, all injured (except for Swinton) are expected to be available - including Beale who will return from France in time for selection. NOW we can start the guessing game on Australia A :)

Ok then my Wallaby 36 would be:

Hooker - Porecki, Fainga'a, Mafi (have been told that Rennie is picking him)
Prop - Bell, Slipper, Tupou, AAA, Johnson-Holmes
Lock - Swain, Rodda, Philip, Frost, Holloway
Backrow - Valetini, Hooper, Wilson, Leota, McReight, Samu
Scrumhalves - White, McDermott, Gordon
Flyhalves - Cooper, Loloesio, O'Connor
Centres - Kerevi, Ikitau, Simone, Perese, Paisami
Wings - Koroibete, Kellaway, Petaia, Wright
Fullback - Banks, Hodge

Which means my Aussie A side would be:

1 Sio [c]
2 Kaitu'u
3 Fa'amausili
4 Hooper
5 Neville
6 L Wright
7 Gamble
8 Harris
9 Fines
10 Gordon
11 Vunivalu
12 Kuenzle
13 Foketi
14 Nawaqanitawase
15 Campbell

16 Pollard
17 Eloff
18 Holz
19 R Smith
20 Uru
21 R Lonergan
22 Edmed
23 Daugunu

with a smattering of the likes of L Lonergan, Hoopert, T Robertson, Blyth, Hanigan, Warren-Vosayaco, Callan, Donaldson, Stewart, Newsome, Muirhead to flesh out the squad.

Personally

1 too prop short & 1 backrower too much. Sio up prob Leota or McReight down if they wanted to give 1 of them 3 decent shifts. If your mail is correct about Mafi then fair but for me 5th - 7th hooker atm

Eloff not eligible yet even if its just 3 years. I would have Muirhead infront of Marky N

But i'm some moron on the internet

Leota will be picked at 6 based on incumbency and the fact that hes started very strongly coming back from injury.

6 backrowers in standard in a 33 man squad, let alone 36. It's the 5 actual centres that clogs it up a big .

Hooker: Kaituu, Fainga'a, Porecki
Prop: Sio, Slipper, Bell, Tupou, Ala'alatoa, HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes)
Lock: Swain, Rodda, Philip, Frost, Holloway
BR: Leota, Valetini, Samu, Wilson, Hoops, Mcreight
HB: Mcdermott, White, Gordon
FH: JOC (James O'Connor), Lolesio, Quade
Cen: Paisami, Kerevi, Perese, Ikitau
OB: Vunivalu, Koroibete, Kellaway, Wright, Banks, Hodge

Aussie A 23 + 1 more in each "zone" so 31 which is what WC used to be (didn't pick people meant to be leaving)

1. Gibbon 2. Lonergan 3. Pone
4. Smith 5. Neville
6. Hanigan 8. Harris 7. Gamble
9. Lonergan 10. Edmed 11. Daugunu 12. Foketi 13. Newsome 14. Muirhead 15. Campbell
16. Mcinerney 17. Robertson 18. Holz 19. Blyth 20. Wright 21. Powell 22. To'omua 23. Beale

24. Mafi 25. Orr 26. Mccauley 27. Vosayaco 28. Fines 29. Donaldson 30. Flook 31. Pulu

Powell,To'omua, Beale? I doubt that very much.

As far as Beale, you wonder if he’s coming back as he perceives there’s a weakness at 15. Or if he’s been encouraged to return by Rennie. Either way, I think he’ll be in the 36. The 23? Not so sure

Beale just came back for a RA contract - he will be back and eligible from france before the england series and should hopefully get at least 1 injury comeback game in France.

Why would he not be in the Australian A squad?

Not sure what the point of having Beale in the A squad is unless you think he's lacking match fitness?

I think the Aus A squad needs some older heads that are ultra professionals. Might not be the best players but they demand standards and train the house down. Have a handful of those guys in the team to complement emerging players, hopefully some of these guys are also players in wallabies contention.

I’d have Wells, Neville, Wright, Koteka etc. just to show the emerging guys what’s expected to take it to the next level.

Don’t have to all be in the match day 23 each game.

Has it been implied/is it known that he has received a RA top up as part of his new Rebels deal?

I know he had a few offers on the table and I was surprised he opted to stay in Super Rugby, although the last real conversation I had about it was prior to his season ending injury so that may have changed what was available.
