The RFU's lust for cash knows no bounds. If they can smell a quid they'd bid for anything. I see that Ireland, US/Canada and Italy are 3 potential bidder for RWC 2023. Not beyond the realms of possibility for the RFU to try for some matches/cash in support of either the Irish or Italian bids. I wouldn't put anything past the people who run English rugby.
And the people who are now in charge of English rugby, the clubs, make the RFU look like Mother Theresa.

Wallabies need this for WC:

England likely to invoke exceptional circumstances clause to pick Steffon Armitage and Nick Abendanon

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/ru...pick-Steffon-Armitage-and-Nick-Abendanon.html

Only 2 players, pleaseeeee.

Ma'afu and Kane Douglas. Our tight five is too weak. I know many users don't like Ma'afu but we need him for 2 games, only 2 games: England & Wales.

Steffon Armitage is a top class forward , Wallabies need reinforcements

I don't think Lancaster will pick either of those lads because the English clubs would go ape shit if he does. Rumours I have heard indicate Douglas is heading back to Aus in time for the RWC, hopefully on the same plane as Matt O'Connor.

Why would the English clubs care? Or is the selection policy a way for them to limit/prevent the best players playing in France (or anywhere else) and thus reducing/eliminating competition in the player market. I couldn't imagine that the English clubs have the test team's interests at heart.

How has Douglas been going OS?

Just had a look and saw he wasn't in the team against Bath or some other recent games. Injured?

Yeah same reason Australian/NZ super rugby sides care, it offers them some extra bargaining power over French money.

We could use both at the Reds. But, I've heard the "Douglas might be back for the WC" rumour 50 times since last November, yet there doesn't seem to be any substance to it.

I think he has a year left on his contract, but I can't see him surviving unless Leinster manage a miracle and beat Toulon this weekend. The Leinster supporters are very unhappy, the Munster supporters think he should have his contract extended!?!?

Are you serious? He has the same win % as Joe Schmidt, which is higher than Cheika and the highest of all time, won the Pro 12 title in his first year. Likely to finish up 5th in his 2nd year and he's out?

There is a bit of denial going on at Leinster. They have been spoilt by the success and are finding the adjustment to life after BOD and Cullen tough. D'Arcy's legs have gone, Sean O'Brien and Healy have spent half the season injured, even Heaslip has struggled with injury which is unheard of. A lot of the blues supporters have believed the hype around the academy products as well, which doesn't help, BUT, Matt O'Connor has Leinster playing a puke brand of unimaginative bosh rugby league lite. He also hasn't endeared himself to many people with his constant whinging. That said, it will cost to get rid of him so I think Leinster will be forced to suck it up like Munster had to with McGahan.

Foley re-signs with Waratahs until 2018
NSW Waratahs have today announced the signing of championship-winning flyhalf Bernard Foley on a flexible three-year contract extension with the Australian Rugby Union.

The new agreement locks away the 25-year-old incumbent Wallabies flyhalf until at least the end of 2018 and ensures he will be eligible for Qantas Wallabies and NSW Waratahs selection in each year of the deal.

As part of the Flexible Contract, Foley will also be entitled to spend two seasons playing Rugby in the Japanese domestic competition.

These two opportunities will exist at the end of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and at the conclusion of the 2016 Rugby Championship.

NSW Waratahs CEO Greg Harris said the retention of Foley on a flexible contract was a positive outcome for both the Waratahs and for Australian rugby.

“Bernard is an outstanding talent and an integral part of our team,” Harris said.

“It is essential for the Waratahs that we lock away the spine of the team and retaining Bernard, along with Nick Phipps, is a crucial part of this exercise.”

Playing in every game of the title-winning season in 2014, Foley exemplified his talent and consistency reaching his 100, 200 and 300 NSW point milestones as he rapidly accumulated a 252 point total for the Super Rugby season – including 45 conversions and 44 penalties.

Able to play a role in fullback or fly-half, Foley’s versatility emerged during his early career as a sevens specialist, first gaining selection to the Australian side in 2009.

He was a silver medallist with the Australian Sevens team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi and went on to captain the national squad in the 2010/11 IRB Sevens Series.

He made his Super Rugby debut in 2011 against the Auckland Blues in the Waratahs semi-final appearance; he was included in the Wallabies squad for the 2012 Test series against Scotland and Wales after just 11 appearances for his state. He eventually debuted for Australia against Argentina in Rosario during the 2013 Rugby Championship season, and is now regularly included in the Wallabies’ starting fifteen.

Foley grew up in Dural and attended Redfield College before moving schools to study at St Aloysius College. The eastern suburbs local completed his Bachelor of Economics at Sydney University in 2012, and is a member of the Sydney University club which plays in the Intrust Super Shute Shield competition.

Bernard Foley
Date Of Birth: 08/09/1989

It's seems stupid that Bernard Foley is the player that has broken the ducks back so to speak.

From a wallabies perspective (which should be the primary concern when doling out ARU contracts), Folau, To'omua even Cooper are all players with more to offer the wallaby cause. Should use the murky, grey clause on those 3 and let Foley fuck off if he wanted to rather than hold the code to ransom.

You might be able to tell but I'm not a fan of this being the ARU's first foray into flexible contracting.

For mine, players to be worth a flexible contract should be
a) vitally important to the wallabies over a period of 2 seasons or so
b) Pretty much walk up starters I.e undisputedly the best in their position in the country, not just one of a couple of good options
c) fairly consistent in performance regardless of their teams' position etc.

If that seems like an unreasonable standard the. Fuckin tough shit, better that than handing them out left Right and Centre
