Spot on TWAS. The NRL have gone loud and proud about their plans to retain and recruit whoever they want to BUT there is no substance to their plans. Can the NRL just open the chequebook? As soon as they do another 10 stars will be crying poor and putting their hand out for more. Yes the NRL have funds, but they still need to exercise prudence or they may not have those funds forever.

Once Izzy experiences the World Cup it should make him stay, he'll realise just how much of a global star he can/could be in rugby.
NRL's top stars silently fume over cash stash
The NRL is about to be hit by a new issue - the game's elite players are fuming about the decision to allow the game's boss Dave Smith to throw money at players from outside the game as he deems fit. And it's a move that could cost the code a star like Greg Inglis - who is again on the radar of French rugby sides. Inglis could make at least 50 per cent more than he is at present, and with half the effort. It's a move that will tempt the Souths star, as well as others who are in his class. What may hold him back is the fact he has just become a father. The opportunity is knocking loudly. The marquee player fund has been the talk of the elite in the game in recent weeks, even more than the scheduling and workload they are forced to endure. The elite players think - quite reasonably - that if Smith can find the money to lure an Israel Folau back to the NRL, or poach a big name from AFL, where is the money for them? What triggered the angst was the Andrew Fifita $850,000-a-year offer from the Bulldogs. And it was re-enforced by the offer made to James Tedesco by the Raiders for $800,000. With many big-name players locked into long-term deals, they would not be getting that kind of money, even with increases in their salary tied to the increase in the TV deal and the salary cap. Toss in the workload of 30-plus games and their argument has validity. The issue for players is they are perceived as greedy if they speak up about their salaries. When you consider that the game has additional funding to throw at outsiders, if it regards them as special enough, the elite players do have a point.
