Agree with that Slim. He can't have done a lot more to get picked in the Wallaby squad than he has. If that's not good enough for the selectors then I wouldn't blame him for chasing the dosh overseas.

Fardy will be 32 y.o. when we play the Poms next year. He's not done yet as far as gold goes but, as much as I am a fan, I can't see him making the 2019 RWC.

That's the sort of position that Jones might be phased into over the next season or two, so long as he keeps form and pressing for selection.

This.

He's just that little bit too short for Cheiks, but he would be a classic cockbain/ fardy style 6. Would also like to see him at 8.

Agree kiap,

I always thought that Jones was the logical replacement for Fardy at the Wallabies if that is the type of 6 that the Wallabies will be looking at. The return of Dean Mumm did him no favours but you had to pick Mumm in a RWC year.

A few youngish players have gone offshore, impatient of waiting, and we don't want Jones to be another.

One year after a RWC is when you have to use a player like Jones - unfortunately the same goes for McMahon.

If you use Mumm again, you may lose Jones.

This year, the Wallabies brought back Mumm & Douglas, and took Arnold & Coleman into Wallabies' extended camp, ahead of Jones, despite him coming off his best ever Super Rugby season.

If I were him, I'd move overseas

But of those only Mumm is a rival of Jones for a 6/lock role - and let's not forget the effect of one injury to others, let alone two.

Ironically it may be in Jones' long-term interest to stay and go later. Being a regular in a Wallabies 23 for a year or two could make Euro clubs more interested.

However if he is overlooked in 2016, a year in which he should be considered but isn't, I agree: it would be time to move on.

Mumm and Fardy are now in their 30s. Unless Mumm is picked as a lock (and personally I'd prefer Coleman or Arnold), I would drop Mumm to make room for Jones. That would seem unfair to some but you have to look to the future and the drop down to Jones is closing fast.

Having said that, players are bound to get injured and there may be room for all.

I reckon Jones will stick around, he seems to me to be the sort of chap who really wants a Wallaby career.

All he has to do is get a bit of mongrel, he has all the attributes of a great 6 except for that. We need to get him mentored by Tony Shaw.

Potentially he could be a better McCalman, with ability to be the 2nd lineout jumper and able to cover lock as well.

Best option IMO would be for Pyle to come home in June, so Jones can spend a few games at 6 before the Rugby Championship. Would mean a backrower (probably Thomson) missing out, but I don't mind too much.

I wouldn't pick Jones at 8 for the Wallabies until I see him play there in Super Rugby picking up bad ball from a scrum - and then break the first tackle a bit.

McCalman wasn't much in these areas when he started in Super Rugby but he is good at it now; so Jones could learn the role over time.

Ben Mowen wasn't the most natural no. 8 either but he ended up OK.

I think Jones is a natural 6 who can play lock, in test rugby, but he could surprise me with his versatility. I once saw him play lock, 6 and 8 for ISA Schools in one half of rugby at Rat Park and my jaw dropped.

Maybe it will again.

Totally agree on playing him at eight in Super rugby first, Lee. I just think he's got the go forward and athletic ability to play there and saw him do it for Manly in the Shield a number of times. I'd love to see TT give him a crack at it for the Rebels.

Noooo SURELY cheika is like..

"cmon man, Fardy Mumm and even Dennis are on their last legs, You're the only 6/lock cover left on the up."

and Jones is like "Listen bro, I've been trying but I got looked over for the oldies at that cover and lock is stacked up with big units already".

So Cheik is all like..
Stick it out Homey, we gots some little tyros buzzing around in Butler and Cottrell but let's get real, they is lightweights. 7 is super well covered, and yeh the big lock department is full up, 8 has some Island love in the pipeline and we is mixing it up with some 7s, BUT our 6 cabinet is looking slim, you're not, let's make it happen"

So then Jones is all like.."yeh fair, ditch Mumm, get me in some Training Camps to pressure up on Old Man Fards who will be around 2016, and I'll push up on it for 2017 onwards."

The End.

You all think Jones is in his thinking he picked a tiny McMahon at 6 before he picked Jones there.
